Seahawks ‘just don‘t understand’ the Super Bowl-losing play call
nypost.com ^ | February 2, 2015 | Paul Schwartz

There were plenty of explanations offered, first by Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, then by offensive coordinator Darren Bevell and quarterback Russell Wilson, but at the end of Super Bowl XLIX, with everyone left breathless, the question still hanging out there along with the confetti falling on the victorious Patriots:

How in the world does Marshawn Lynch, as fearsome a runner as there is, not get the ball on second down from the New England 1-yard line in the final seconds?

“We had it,’’ Seahawks linebacker Bruce Irvin said. “I don’t know how you don’t give it to the best back in the league on not even the 1-yard line? We were on the half-yard line and we throw a slant. I don’t know what the offense had going on, what they saw. I just don’t understand.’’

Wilson should’ve run it himself or found some way to get to Marshawn Lynch. Period. He should not have thrown it over the middle.

In the end the Seattle Thugs showed their true colors.

The Seahawks shouldn’t cry about it, the Packers should be Super Bowl Champs anyway.

It’s being reported that the Scout team won a practice scrimmage by finishing with Garrapalo hitting Boyce on this route against *Butler* on the same play this past week and Butler got chewed out for not recognizing it.

He learned.

That might be the worst play call in the history of football.

No. Handoff fro Pisarcik to Czonka with 20 seconds left is still worse. A QB kneel was sufficient. It just wasn't in the Super Bowl.

The fumble.

“And remember, it was only 2nd down.”

With timeouts remaining.

It was the stunning reality of the worst offensive and best defensive play in Superbowl history.

Well, the game turned out to be one of the greatest super bowls of all time, just falling short of the 1984 epic super bowl. Those were the days...

Bingo, the Seahawks should have never beaten the Packers.
The Hawks won and lost by the big play. They did not win the battle at the line of scrimmage.

The Pats had complete control of the game in the first half. The momentum changed at the end of the first half with the Hawks going for and getting the touchdown when every other coach would have kicked the field goal. The stats when you compare them: runs, pass attempts, completions, sacks, etc. were not even close. The Hawks gained all the offense on three big pass plays. Brady was picking apart them apart. Brady passed the ball 50 times against the best defense in the league.

The Hawks should have won the game at the end, but they got cute. Instead of running the ball or boot leg, they tried to throw it into tight coverage and lost.

I just wanted Brady to go up to Richard Sherman and ask him: “Are you mad bro?”.

Yeah, you call a slant play on the 1 yard line, you are begging to be fired...

The kid will have and hold that moment every day of his entire life, deservedly so.

The trick will be carrying it forward in gratitude and inspiration, and not nostalgia and longing.

It can be a tough thing to have the high point of your life happen so early. But maybe he’s up to it.

Must really stink being a Seahawks fan

Like Green Bay fans two weeks earlier, Seattle knows how to snatch Defeat from the jaws of Victory, but it will build character.

New England fans don't need to build character. They've got another Lombardi Trophy....

God has a wicked sense of humor, doesn't he?

Had the Seahawks won 31-28, my wife and kids would have won $6,000 in a SB pool. I didn't know about it until the Seahawks had the ball first and goal.

I was proud of my 25 YO son after the game. He said to me, "I guess it just wasn't meant to be. Whoever won probably needs the money a lot more than I do."

We've been so blessed, there wasn't a whole lot of "what-ifs" or moaning after the game. No doubt, the money would have come in handy, but it wouldn't have changed our lives.
