I discovered slow-cooking boston butt because of the high beef prices.

It is so good -and easy!

Aldis supermarket always has a ground beef that is about $4.50 a pound. It is 83% beef and pretty lean and clean. They also sometimes have an imported grass fed beef for $5.50 a pound. Either one is good enuff for me. I could care less about juicy high class steaks. Its a been there done that situation. A good Aldis hamburger with beans on the side is a good protein dose for me and as good as a fine steak. Beef and beans have a synergy. Add a salad or some cooked frozen peas or cooked fresh green beans

Because it is cheaper.

I haven’t bought fresh beef since last March or April when Kroger had it for $1.99/lb for both ground beef and corned beef and I got a rain check for the ground beef. The limit was 10 and I bought all 10 and froze it. Used the last about early fall.

I have bought a few cans of Keystone beef at Wal-Mart. I got 8 28 oz cans when they were $6.48 (now $6.97) and that works for some dishes where I might have used ground beef instead. Ingredients - Beef and Sea Salt. They also have ground beef, pork, chicken and turkey but I have never bought any of those. Good for food storage- they say 5 years but probably longer.

I buy pork loins, ground pork (only at W-M when reduced), ham and bacon when on sale. The grocery store here sometimes has the 10 lb boxes of bacon on sale, it’s not always the best bacon but it isn’t horrible. We keep the grease and use in cooking and baking.

Even with food stamps I refuse to pay the prices they want for beef. Not eating as much beef as I used to probably didn’t help my anemia.

I’m writing my shopping list today after I look at the ads and hope someone has beef on sale and if not at least pork at a good price. My food stamps refill and I hope to go shopping at Aldi and Kroger and not just Wal-Mart and the local grocery store.

Beef was imported from Venezuela, which is becoming a Socialist basket case with its “Central Planning”. Supply of imported beef likely ‘way down.
