That is why I mentioned “overseas demand”. I personally don’t believe a that American demand for beef is driving the price increase due to the healthy eating craze. American food processors used to throw out chicken feet but the rise of Asian purchasing power and the fact that Asians consider chicken feet a delicacy means that it is one of the more profitable products we export. I was also assuming market forces driving the cost of fuel.
I explicitly called out the wasteful government mandate for corn to ethanol for fuel assuming people would understand that diverting some corn to fuel would drive up the cost of feed for feedlots which would then be passed onto the consumer. I should have fleshed that one out.
