A "huge flock" of jackrabbits in a Fargo, North Dakota, neighborhood has homeowners feeling jumpy.
More than 50 jackrabbits the size of small dogs have been hopping around backyards and a park of a new development in South Fargo, resident Kayla Straabe told ABC News today.
"Every day, I feel like the crazy rabbit lady chasing them out of the yard where they're having a hay day," Straabe said. "There's at least 40 to 50 everyday, and they're in our yards and by a children's park."
She said the city pest control department told her that they couldn't do anything about the jackrabbits, technically wild hares, because they were wild animals.
"I was told we should poison them, which I will absolutely not do," Straabe said.
There is no city ordinance that deals with depopulating rabbits in the area, Fargo Police Lt. Joel Vettel told ABC News.

IIRC, eating jackrabbit can be like chewing on cotton unless it’s.....FWICASSEED!!
I have a letter from my uncle which describes in detail how their high desert locality handled such problems in the early 1940s. The entire population of the town who was able to walk and wield a club surrounded a field full of these critters and marched inward in two circles. As the jack rabbits converged toward the circle and stacked up on each other, they clubbed them to death. Any which escaped the inner circle got the same treatment by the outer circle. Jack rabbits herd pretty well and they're stupid.
The rabbit corpses were collected in a couple of pick-up trucks, hauled to the dump and burned. They don't make particularly good eating in the high desert.
Maybe in a lush grassy place like Fargo, an outdoor barbecue would be in order. But I don't think it would be all that pleasant in January.

You are correct. Jack rabbit is tough. So are many cuts of beef, that’s why I said stew. Cook it low and slow.
