A brother-in-law told me of a man he had known when he was a young man. This fellow was fond of attending auctions and estate sales and seldom passed up a yard sale. He had thousands of books in his attic, which he was going to go through “some day” in order to look for money that someone may have stashed in them.

The BIL doubts he ever got around to it, and the man has been gone for decades now.

Looking at it again it remind me of a theatre prop we once used. Big Bang for theatrical reaction

There it is! Thought it would be worth more than $200.

FWIW looks like a lady’s gun.

Now you’ve got me thinking about garter belts. :)

I love stories like this!

I’ll have to keep this in mind when I go to tag-sales?!

To change the subject, I was at an estate sale lasat weekend [whole house] and was so happy to get out of hibernation after being cooped up all winter. It made me very sad to see boxes and boxes of albums and family photos that were going to get thrown out. Sad that no one in that family could take them for posterity. But that happens.

It might lead them to Jimmy Hoffa’s killer!

“Friends of the family were packing out their deceased parent’s things and putting books into boxes to give away. One of the siblings tossed a book, which opened up, and out flew hundred dollar bills.”

Always, always, always, fan through a book before you dispose of it. I can’t say I’ve ever found anything, but I can say with almost 100% certainty I’ve never missed anything.

“Much is being made of this non story.”

It plays upon most people’s desire to get something for nothing. Found money, the Corvette in the barn, etc. Harmless fantasy. Looking might even pay off once in a blue moon.

Goodwill takes piston donations?

Heck, I’d just like to get rid of some chairs.

I used to tuck a dollar in Gideon bibles in the hotel rooms I stayed in when I was a flight attendant. If someone would instinctively grab one looking for a dollar and didn't find one, maybe they would find something of greater value! ♡

We have a local museum and geneology group that takes old pictures like that. It all started with one man collecting them at local sales

Now Goodwill can change their ads from a “little black dress” to a “little gold gun.” “We have it. You want it. And it’s in one of our stores, somewhere, for you to find.”

Had it been me, it would have been, “Wow. A pistol. My lucky day. I’ll buy this book and take it home.” There would have been no news story about it, or police report.

I think a worker in the pricing area of the store, away from the public, found this pistol before it was put into the main part of the store and offered for sale.

I visit this exact store all the time, but never came across a firearm.

From the link:

WARNING: Black powder firearms cannot be shipped to New Jersey, New York City, Illinois, Michigan, or Canada. For all other states, please review your state and local laws before ordering.

I thought liberals were okay with muskets!

If I understand the story, I believe that this happened in a Goodwill sorting and distribution warehouse, B4 the public had access to the items.
