ELLSWORTH, Maine Goodwill staff and police got more than they bargained for last week after a book was donated to the Ellsworth location.
An employee was going through one of the books and found a gun inside it on Jan. 30, according to Ellsworth police Lt. Harold Page.
It just looks like a regular book that somebody had cut the pages out of the inside, Page said.
Page said Goodwill has a central warehouse where they receive items from, and the gun was discovered upon the books delivery to the Ellsworth location. An employee called police upon discovering the weapon.
THAT’S where I put it. Dang!
Bet it’s never been fired. Aren’t those instruction papers under it? LOL
Heh. I go to a lot of estate/tag sales.
It never occurred to me to look inside books for money or suchlike. I can see how it would happen, including folding money tucked away for a rainy day.
If I adopt this cautionary tale, it would take too much time in my *schedule* of rounds to sales. Just dang!
Big deal. Many people have or had hollowed out books where they kept weapons.
However, this one looks like an antique historic pistol. Anybody know anything about it? The article didn’t give any details.
“It never occurred to me to look inside books for money or suchlike. “
With my divorce, I had to clean out the house; get rid of a bunch of books, etc.
I took each and shook the pages. Out of one fell some of my ex’s email copies ....
It looks like a modern reproduction of an antique pistol. Note the instruction sheet saying to use only black powder, and the clasp where the book closes and latches. It was probably a package deal, sold with the book, as a storage unit.
Goodness! How great! What a find!
My grandmother found a roll of small currency rolled up a sock in the drawer of my grandfather when he passed. It wasn’t much money, but I think she knew it was there.
Didn’t JB Fletcher live near there...in Cabot Cove??
This was posted here yesterday from an artcle posted in a West coast website. This article from up the road actually has less information.
The “book” was not directly donated to the Ellsworth store, but came from a central repository of donated items (located in Portland, Maine). The “book” is actually a book safe. The gun appears to be a replica that amy not even work. Much is being made of this non story.
I don’t understand why they called the police. So what?
I dont understand why they called the police. So what?—
Maybe the book was overdue.
Dang! I never find anything good like that.
“Bitte”???

Yea, if you are not from Maine, Cabot Cove is close to anywhere here, but since Cabot Cove was fictious and never placed firmly on the map, you can suggest it is close to Ellsworth.
For those who like reality, Ellsworth is on the coast of Maine, just north of Mount Desert Island, the home of Acadia National Park.
LOL! If it were me, I’d have bought the book and told no one!
It’s happened again.
