Big deal. Many people have or had hollowed out books where they kept weapons.

However, this one looks like an antique historic pistol. Anybody know anything about it? The article didn’t give any details.

It looks like a modern reproduction of an antique pistol. Note the instruction sheet saying to use only black powder, and the clasp where the book closes and latches. It was probably a package deal, sold with the book, as a storage unit.

This was posted here yesterday from an artcle posted in a West coast website. This article from up the road actually has less information.

The “book” was not directly donated to the Ellsworth store, but came from a central repository of donated items (located in Portland, Maine). The “book” is actually a book safe. The gun appears to be a replica that amy not even work. Much is being made of this non story.

I live in Maine, and I visit that store a couple of times a week.

All kinds of interesting items pass through. I’ve bought books, videos, DVDs, cameras, vintage framed items, all kinds of neat stuff.

The hollowed-out book had what looked like an antique firearm inside it. As others have said on this thread, it may be a reproduction.

This story was on the evening newscast broadcast from a CBS affiliate in Bangor, ME the other night.

The woman police detective said the firearm may be Italian, and there are no serial numbers, so it might be hard to find the original owner, according to the detective.

On another note, since January 24th, Ellsworth, ME received 5 feet, 8 inches of snow from five different storms, along with sub-zero temperatures at night. This global warming is rough.

I know a guy who bought an old 8-track cassette in a Salvation Army store in Bangor, ME. He found $80 inside.
Another guy I know of purchased a bunch of books at a yard sale north of Bangor some years ago. When he got home, he found $400 inside the books.
