As we wait, our friendly group will still meet to start the day. We bought an Ooma yesterday. Hoping to cut the phone bill down to less than $4.00. I hope we can have out phone number ported. They say is can take 4-6 weeks. Then, we’ve decided to cut the cable at that time, and add SlingTV to our ROKU channels. Well, that’s the plan anyway.

I really like the Ooma! We were about to get one when Comcast offered the phone for $10/month. It’s been fine BUT we ARE going to drop the cable TV in a few months. Right now we get everything including pay channels but as we go through the listings THERE IS NOTHING WE CARE TO WATCH!
We already cut cable from our bedrooms in favor of over the air and we watch that more than cable.
We looked into OTA, but can’t pick up a single thing where we live. And you’re right, there’s nothing worth watching! We like HGTV, Travel Channel, Discovery and those types of channels. We can get most of the shows we like on Netflix. Cable is a lot of money for a lot of JUNK. We like Fox News Channel and can watch online. We’re going to try connecting the laptop to the living room tv with an hdmi cable. At least I think that is supposed to work?
Do you get the same Fox content as on the cable? I haven’t found that, just repeat segments.
For cheap....$20-$30 you can get a dongle that streams whatever is on you laptop to your tv wirelessly. Of course you can’t do anything else with the laptop while you stream.
We are using DLNA to wirelessly send recorded comtent to th tv. Dowload then stream. In that case you can still use the laptop.

Didn’t you say you have Windows 7 or 8? IIRC WiDi...Wireless Display to TV is built in or a free download. Look up WiDi. Also lookup DLNA...digital local network adapter.
Yes, you can watch fox news channel live. Must type in a couple keywords like “Fox News Go” or “watch Fox News live”. You’ll have to sign in with your Xfinity ID. I watch on my laptop.
I’ll look into the dongle that you mentioned. I can use my tablet for browsing if the laptop is connected to the tv.

If you are with comcast you can get internet only. That’s what we’re going to do.
On tne Roku, you can get Sling TV for $20.00 month. Currently tney offer 12 stations LIVE, including Travel Channel, HGTV, and Food Network. And some stations have links to full episodes to watch online.
Cool! We have Windows 8 so I’ll look up tne WiDi and DLNA.
I have a Chromecast dongle, and I can stream with it via my smartphone. I could use my tablet if it weren’t so old/outdated.
