Before DNA testing, it was up to the parents to make a choice. what happens if they choose wrong? They will have female hormones in a male body or male hormones in your female body.
That's not a lifestyle choice. It is not a transgender issue.
Put lipstick on a pig, it's still a pig.
Put a woman's body on a man, he's still a man.
Put a man's body on a woman, she is still a woman.
It is what is is. You cant fix everything. This is something they couldnt help. It's different.
Assigning the correct gender is the crucial first step. I can understand why some parents got it wrong when the only option was boy or girl. Get the gender wrong and the baby is in for a tough road ahead.
DNA testing is but one of the tools used. Blood tests. Does the baby have abnormal hormone levels? X-rays. Does the baby have ovaries or testes? Even then gender assignment may not be a clear cut decision. But it is a decision to be made with as much information as possible.
This is not just an anatomical defect, there are different causes, one of which is Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia. I worked with someone whose daughter was born with this condition The main part of her treatment was treatment with corticosteroids.
