In Casino Royale they show how he got his 00 status. This was described in the novel, but of course the ‘real’ James Bond was a world war II vet.

I agree completely. I read all the original Fleming books as kid, and imagined him as a soldier/thug/spy that did anything necessary to successfully complete his mission. These Daniel Craig movies portray Bond as more of a thug than the effete earlier ones, except perhaps for the earliest Connery movies. I like these.

I've been a Bond fan since I first read "Goldfinger" and saw the movie a half a dozen times in high school. Characters like Odd Job and Pussy Galore were new and different for a high schooler in the 1960's. I read most of Fleming's books early on and saw every movie, many, more than once. Some were better than others but I still loved the character of 007, the devious antagonists and adversaries and the action/adventure storyline plots. I've seen the recent movies with Daniel Craig and he does a fine job as an up-to-date modern Bond to go along with the faster-paced and more action-infused movies the public expects nowadays.

My opinion is that the original Sean Connery Bond movies would not be as successful today because they are not fast enough and don't have the special effects that today's audiences are used to. I've watched the 1960's "Goldfinger" recently, and while still plenty enjoyable, it is not hard to see that these original 007 movies were better suited to a more innocent era 50 years ago. But for a wide-eyed, innocent high school kid in the 1960's, James Bond and his antics were great escapism fun.

Black suit in the snowy mountains, because spies should stand out in their environment.

Sean Connery is “the” Bond, but Craig is better at portraying 007 than others who turned the character into a clown.

One day, Bond will be female, homosexual, transgender, Muslim, or all of the above. That will be the end of the franchise.

I resisted Craig as Bond until I saw a snippet of Casino Royale. Found a copy in the $9.99 bin and enjoyed it immensely. Skyfall not so much, but that wasn’t his fault.

I saw the last Bond movie, and my expectations were high because some posters here claimed he was the best Bond ever. I was disappointed; he has no range of emotions on his face,
he looks like a mannequin. The plot story was helpless—I got irritated with the fight scene at the end—it was supposed to be at night in a lake, but visibility was about 100%. It was all action with no purpose.

The opening eye popping action sequence is what makes a Bond film stand out.

I wonder how SPECTRE compares with famous action scenes in past Bond movies.

Ah yes, when I hung up on Larry... LOL!

BTW, The Real Housewives of WMAL Facebook page is quite active. Larry and Brian post constantly (as does their producer, Heather Smith)...

If you're referring to "Skyfall", the last (Craig) Bond film, Bond loyalty to the agency was tested, but he was still a senior agent. I think the back-story (orphan) and his personal Aston Martin DB5 (complete with ejection seat) was a tie-in with the 50th anniversary of the Bond movie franchise.

In the Ian Fleming books, Bond's personal ride was a Bentley coupe.
