Browns Owner: We Didn’t Know about Johnny Manziel’s Lifestyle When We Drafted Him
Breitbart ^ | February 13, 2015 | Staff

Browns owner Jimmy Haslam claims he didn’t know of Johnny Manziel’s lifestyle when he drafted the former Heisman Trophy-winner last year.

“I don’t know how much of Johnny’s personal life was known by everybody then,” Haslam told a press conference on Friday. Manziel currently sits in a rehabilitation facility to transition from his party lifestyle to a sober one.

Manziel slipped to the 22nd pick in the 2014 draft based largely on the concerns that Haslam now suggests were largely unknown last spring. College Station police arrested the Texas A&M quarterback on alcohol-related charges after a late-night fight in 2012 and the following year the Manning Passing Academy ejected the Heisman Trophy-winner from the camp because of “oversleeping.” Pictures of Manziel partying remained a staple of social media throughout his tenure at Texas A&M.

Well, I finally know why I’m not rich and a position of authority... my grasp of the obvious and common sense has screwed me.

Whatever PR hack who advised him to say this should be fired...and the owner of course bears ultimate responsibility - it would have been FAR better to come out and say “we saw what everybody else saw, and we sensed real growth in Johnny and thought he had moved past these habits. We thought with his talent, it was certainly a good pick at 22.”

Or something like that....

This probably isn't going to work (the rehab). Young, irresponsible kid with a bad circle of friends and a well established penchant for partying. A million dollars in the bank. Flashy cars. Hot women throwing themselves at him.

Now the first few weeks, or months even, might seem to go well. He'll show up in training camp all bright-eyed, sling the ball around, say all the right things for the press. But bit by bit, he'll descend back into his old lifestyle. He'll have a good game or likelier a good practice session. He'll want to celebrate. Toss back a few with the boys. Next thing you know, he's back in the headlines in a bad way.

Maybe I get proved wrong. But this seems to be the way these things usually go.

It must be nice to have enough cash to make investments without worrying about such trifling annoyances as due diligence.

Then you should fire all your scouts.

Along with your entire front office.

Maybe even yourself. I'm sick of ass-covering liars.

Either that Owner is lying or just plain dumb. Any NFL team about to invest a high draft pick in a player better know a lot about the players character and lifestyle off the field as well as their abilities on the field. I never did understand the Manziel hype. He’s too short and his passing abilities are marginal. Dspite his rehab efforts, I predict he will be out of the NFL in two years or less.

have to hit bottom before you can crawl back out of it. For JM he’s not close to the bottom and yet, and for most people when they hit the bottom, they stay there.

Yeah, yeah. We know. Until you heard about it on Nick at Nite News. And no one is more outraged than you, blah, blah, blah. We've heard it all before. You and Preezy Obola would make a happy couple.

If he liked white meat.

As a life-long Browns fan, I’m ashamed of the NFL for having done what they did to this city. They let Art Modell break a contract with the city and drag our franchise to a city that was already close to another football franchise.

Then they tried to strip us of our colors, team name, and records. After we protested, they made us build a stadium that would be used for 10 games at the most each year, with no cover, then they gave us crap players, crap coaches, while we watched our franchise go to Baltimore, get into playoffs, and win Super Bowls.

That’s why I never watch NFL games anymore. After letting Pink=Tober sicken us each year, and change the game so our players “don’t get really hurt . . . boo hoo”, they chick-ify the whole league.

So, what does Haslem do to Cleveland? He continues to believe in a jack-ass punk kid from Texas to “maybe” be our quarterback, then decides to pull out of a multi-million dollar preseason facility to head to Columbus (to attract a bigger following . . . as if the Buckeyes aren’t already the biggest attraction), and then he raises the ticket prices! “Hey, Cleveland! You guys are so stupid . . . you’ve been given NFL rejects and dropouts for over 15 years . . . and now we’re going to make you pay more to see our football drama-crap.”

All three of our quarterbacks are jokes, and we get to watch Ohio State come up with three-deep quarterbacks that are awesome. Goodbye to professional football here in Cleveland.

Where’s Roller-Derby when you need it?!

It’s also been reported that Haslam was with Brian Williams on the helicopter that was shot down in Afghanistan. He suffered head injuries that has affected his cognizant powers.

Of course he knew. But in his arrogance, Haslam figured he and his people could keep Manziel somewhat under control long enough to make lots of money trading on Manziel’s celebrity and the pathetic Browns fans’ irrational hope for a messiah to lead them out of Loserville.

Well, yeah.

But can you a predict your receiver making an inside hook VS an outside hook relative to the position of the defensive back when you have 2 seconds of visual contact?

And, the receiver isn’t aware of your intent until your pass is 10 feet away from him?

Johnny Football can. Cletus can’t. How about you TS?

Manziel is to small. He can’t stay in the pocket and I think he is undisciplined , Scrambling QBs don’t survive. Vince Young— RG3 etc. Manziel will return to his dad’s oil company and will be met with unconditional love and millions of dollars but he will never succeed in the big leagues. Want a good “party school” ? Texas A&M is your new home!!

I know, but you'd think that after they both witnessed Gettysburg first hand, that they'd've wised up.
