RIP
Oh, that’s sad. He was often on the original version of Crossfire. RIP!
That’s sad. I read his novel long ago, THE SPIKE. Great man.
He'd have been shocked to see FREEPERs praising Putin as an alternative the America, the land and country conservatives loved then, and some still do.
I always listened very closely to what he had to say! Brilliant man! RIP!
How did he get along with the Moonies?! ... :-) ...
The Moonies were good at funding anti-Communist conservatives. I worked on a local state campaign with a conservative, who had a Moonie as his Chief of Staff.
The Moonies sent me, one time ... to one of their political conferences where they recruited conservatives - all expenses paid. Those Moonies could really throw around the money!
I met Fawn Hall there, at that Moonie Conference in Miami. I also remember seeing the Sandinista and Contra leaders walking around in the lobby of the Hotel InterContinental there, which was surprising to me.
We also had a $1,000 a plate dinner fund raiser for this conservative politician, one time where I met Colonel Oliver North ... :-) ...
It doesn’t appear that the Moonies are as politically active nowadays, as they were back then.
Yes, rest in piece to him. He was an excellent newsman and dedicated to fighting communism. I met him briefly after he gave a speech at Purdue University in 1971; several of us history graduate students got a brief meeting to has him questions. I later was able to attend several meetings that had him as either the or a primary presenter. He was always thoughtful and, in retrospect, accurate in his opinions.
RIP
I worked for a conservative think tank in the early to mid 1980’s and met Mr. de Borchgrave at an anti-Sandanista, Moonie sponsored event in Denver. He was a good man. RIP
You’re right, the Moonies knew how to spend money well.
OHHH I remember that dude
Yep, they were doing that all over the country. I think they spent Half-a-Million Dollars per event ... and had maybe an event every month to two months!
I remember him demolishing many lefties in debate.
Yes, we met at one of the better hotels in downtown Denver and we ate well. First class. They wouldn’t pay for liquor, though.
On the way to that particular event, a buddy and I drove by a Moonie flower vendor. I rolled down the window and yelled “Thanks for dinner’. The guy just looked at me. LOL
Sad news. After reading The Spike, I never looked at
news and the media the same.
Yeah, all that from selling flowers!
For us, we were flown from Portland, Oregon to Miami, and put up at the Hotel InterContinental ... everything paid for, for several days, and not a single penny out-of-pocket!
RIP, sir....you will be missed in the media profession that is now predominately corrupt and declasse.
