Full Title: Strong cannabis causes one in four cases of psychosis: Users three times more likely to have an episode than those who have never tried it ªªªªªªªªªªªªªªªªªªªªªªªªªªªªªªª As many as a quarter of new cases of psychotic mental illness can be blamed on super-strength strains of cannabis, scientists will warn this week. The potent form of the drug – known as ‘skunk’ – is so powerful that users are three times more likely to have a psychotic episode than those who have never tried it.

anything detrimental they ignore or ridicule.

On the contrary, I heartily agree that minors should not smoke pot - and I note that the War on Pot is counterproductive in this regard because while licensed and regulated sellers or recreational substances usually card minors, black-market dealers never do.

And why should minors not smoke pot? What is it about detrimental effects on minors that are not also true of adults?

Not having psychotic Minors is better than having them, but the same is also true of not having psychotic adults.

From the link matt1234 provided in post #22: "Those who started smoking marijuana in adulthood did not show significant IQ declines."

But minors do? And why should we believe adults do not? I have absolutely no trust in anything put out by sources cited by Libertarians.

It does not stand to reason that what will reduce the IQ of a Minor will not also reduce the IQ of an adult.

You’re welcome

as I remember reading the history the hashishians liked to get RIPPED on hashish before going into battle.

this might explain some of the psychotic behavior of the modern day islamic assassins

Why do some people insist on portraying very different things as exactly alike? Are you seriously going to argue that coffee and dope are the same in their consequences?

No, I was not arguing that they are alike.

Steve_Seattle was (implicitly) arguing that they were alike. I was merely taking the syllogism proposed by Steve_Seattle to its logical conclusion.

Steve_Seattle stated that marijuana can be "very bad for some people." The unstated premises are "Like things (coffee, t.v., and sunbathing - which are also 'very bad for some people') should be treated alike." Ergo, "Coffee, t.v., and sunbathing should also be criminalized."

I am, in effect, demonstrating the absurdity of this argument ("Reductio ad absurdum").

Regards,

If cannabis is a causal factor of schizophrenia and psychosis, then why have the rates of these two diseases remained steady (it’s pretty steady at .5-1%) in Westernized nations as cannabis use has increased over the last decade?

Wow, so the federal National Institute on Drug Abuse is also "Libertarians"? Is there any part of the federal government that is NOT "Libertarians"?

matt1234, do you agree that your link is "Libertarian"?

Here are some pictures that are more relevant. This is the work of your heroic Drug Warriors =>

This little fellow was burned by a flash-bang grenade during a drug raid in which no drugs were found.

He's scarred for life and your buddies got away with it.

Maybe Internet porn combats schizophrenia and psychosis? ;-D

Right on, Ken.

I was a drug warrior until I saw the state of Texas cracking down on pain patients for opiate use. As they crowed their success with the WOD and killing ‘pill mills’ I watched the rate of suicide go UP for people with chronic pain. I was living in TX at the time (with a broken back). I did have a conversation with my pain doc and asked him about this relationship.

He told me that the gov’t had no interest in tracking suicides among the cohort with chronic pain because it would interfere with the WOD.

Then I started looking at the civil rights aspects. Civil forfeiture is the single most unconstitutional abuse that our gov’t commits, yet the drug warriors do not care.

THEN I realized that the WOD was responsible for so many people being murdered and injured by our gov’t (like this little boy) and that’s when I stopped.

ANYTHING that gives our gov’t permission to murder, disable, rob, and incarcerate it’s own citizens like the WOD does is unAmerican and should be fought.

No it is from a government source and probably written by well intentioned people to inform the public about the health effects of pot. Freepers are smart enough to read it and decide its relevancy.

BTW, if a marijuana thread becomes a flame war, is it safe to inhale?

i'm in favor of just killing dope dealers.

Just mass murder all of them?

I guess that will stop humans from using substances.

Got it...you bet.

What a vile and disgusting LIBERAL tactic for pushing emotional bullshit into a discussion. You want to pull that sh*t? Do you have any idea how much drug addiction horror can be illustrated by photographs?

And how dare you suggest that anyone supports such injuries as part of their opposition to drugs? Likewise, to completely ignore the fact that it was an ACCIDENT and was in no way deliberately intended by anyone, is just about the bottom pit of the scum bag arguing techniques.

So you want to play it that way, do you? You want to see HORROR because of drug abuse and addiction, and are YOU going to accept responsibility for it because YOU believe people have a right to do drugs?

I'll take responsibility for that poor injured child when *YOU* take responsibility for the millions dead and disabled because of drug addiction. You want to put horror shoes on each other? Well yours are going to be a hell of a lot bigger to fill than are mine.

Here is one YOU are responsible for.

And here's another:

And those aren't even the worst. You've got one example? I've got thousands. I can keep this going forever.

Dude, i'm not falling for your bullsh*t. I've seen you post claims from federal websites before in which you claim they contradict themselves.

If pro-drug libertarians are posting it, it's very likely intended to deliberately mislead.

The guy that shot Chris Kyle (The American Sniper) was a pot-head who smoked dope the day he killed him and his friend.

He was a piker. The great mass murderer Stalin always drank alcohol...

What does this mean Mr. lamp? Does this mean alcohol has the potential of turning people into historic mass murderers?

No

Wait a minute here, you just implied or suggested above that it was pot which made the ding kill sniper guy?

Which is it Mr. lamp?

How do you know it's remained steady? Where do these numbers come from? I've seen more psychosis in the last ten years than in my entire previous life.
