I know that people who go into a situation looking to be offended generally are.

That is true. But it is also true that when something deliberately offensive is put forth, some people find it offensive.

I have watched movies for a very long time. I have always enjoyed movies. I am a movie-phile. I love watching movies. It is only in the last decade that I have come to realize much of what we watch pushes a subtle message that is not always apparent when you are focused on the entertainment aspects of a movie.

What the underlying message is, is that Left-Wing ideas are always correct, and right-wing people are always evil and bad and so are their ideas.

Right wing people are always played as evil monsters, and left wing people are always portrayed as kind and with your best interests at heart.

This is how these people have been winning over the years. Did you think "Dirty Dancing" was just entertainment? Nope, it was pushing a Pro-Abortion message. Did you see Robin Williams in "The birdcage"? Normalization of homosexual marriage.

How about "Full Metal Jacket?" Anti-War, anti-Military. "The Butler"? Racism.

It's gotten to the point where it's hard to find a movie nowadays that isn't pushing some subtle left wing agenda point.

I just watched another movie yesterday called "Predestination"? Do you know what they were pushing in that movie? It was ostensibly about science fiction and time travel, but the bulk of the movie was occupied with pushing Trans-Genderism as normal.

Seriously, that was what MOST of the movie was about; The life of someone who went Transgender and the difficulties they faced in being "different."

If you don't think there is agenda driving going on in these movies, then you are naive.

I probably wouldn't have noticed much, if I hadn't overheard a coworker last week say, "those Christians are just like the Taliban—they want to keep gays from marrying because of their religion." He was not kidding and I wouldn't classify him as a big liberal--just a typical LIV. The process has begun. The thin veneer of civilization is weakening.

First they came ... 2020 version:

Those people are haters. Who cares about them? Christians, those opponents of marriage equality, those enemies of hedonism...

All the points you make are why I am very selective about what movies I financially support. This movie, in my opinion, is by far more conservative than liberal. All of the bad guys are parodies of liberal icons. They have decided to commit genocide just because they can and in return get what they deserve.

Refuting the arguments of the bad guys in the movie is unneccessary because any moral person should instantly recognize them as wrong. The liberal arguments were never accepted as right, they were accepted as reasonable which is different. Did you miss the part where Reagan is actually responsible for defeating the bad guys?

I agree with the idea that we need to be careful in choosing which movies to support. All I had read about this one led me to believe it would be okay. I was unprepared for what I found it to be, and now wish I hadn't spent any money on it.

This happens to me more than I like, and I generally don't patronize movies in the theater anymore unless I have a good idea that i'm not supporting a left wing cause.

Tim Robbins, Sean Penn, and Matt Daimon movies are out without any consideration.

Did you miss the part where Reagan is actually responsible for defeating the bad guys?

I remember them saying that the HALO suit/apparatus was the result of Reagan's star wars program, but I don't remember them saying Reagan was responsible for defeating the bad guys. I do recall the Hero opining that the Colin Firth character's first mission of saving Margaret Thatcher would not be seen as a good accomplishment by many in England.

I took that as a slap against Margaret Thatcher, and at Reagan through proxy.

Awww. Some of us are just now watching the movie - online and not paying the exorbitant price of a theatre ticket.

Actually, I am reading the comments on this years-old movie thread for the first time today. A couple of other Freepers and I want to discuss it now.

Ya’ll are welcome to re-/join the conversation.

((Hugs))

I actually watched it twice: the first time by myself and then with my husband. Overall, despite the vulgarity and obviously fake gore - which is unfortunately more commonplace than I was raised - we found the satire hilarious.

As we watched, we looked at each other simultaneously numerous times, laughing at comparisons/connections we made to James Bond films, western movies of old, and “Soylent Green,” just to mention a few.

A couple of memorable lines that made us laugh hysterically: “Whoo. I feel like a tornado in a trailer park.” and “...bruv. Thought everything was supposed to be bigger in America. Is this why you overcompensate with these massive cars?”

Observing the movie from a political viewpoint, I would suggest that it portrays farcical representations of bigotry, illegal drug use, branding of people, e.g. the recently revealed sex-trafficking group.

On another note ;) , I also found it humorous that the intro with bagpipes morphed into a mixed genre, including Southern Rock, and ended with some great fiddle music.
