Did Racism Strip Jackie Robinson West of Its Little League Title?

Even though Chicago’s Jackie Robinson West Little League team was stripped of their title last week for allegedly recruiting ineligible players, they’re still getting their championship rings. That’s thanks to Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who told reporters over the weekend that he still considers the team champs in the Windy City.

“These young men demonstrated tremendous character both on and off the field, and Chicago will honor them as the champions they are,” Emanuel told reporters. “The memories they created will last a lifetime, and so will the championship rings they have earned.”

But whether or not that title was actually earned has become one of the sports world’s biggest stories in recent weeks.

Did Racism Strip Jackie Robinson West of Its Little League Title?

Only if it is racist to call out black people when they are lying and cheating. So, yes. According to all the Democrats calling the President and ANY black person out on their lies and cheating is RACIST!

The kids are the victims of stupid parents.

Just another example of African American parents screwing up their kids.

So if Mariano Rivera comes out of retirement, lies about his age and pitches Panama to the LL World Series Championship, they would have “earned it,” Rahm?

Recruiting out of your area has always been a big no-no in Little League.

The decision was correct in all particulars.

Looks like they intentionally recruited an all-black team thinking just having the race card to play would discourage anyone from challenging them. Didn’t work.

I don’t care! I just don’t give a $h!+ one way or the other.

We’re bludgeoned everyday with this crap, and if anything it’s made me callous to their “cause”. I don’t care about “$ocial Ju$tice”, cause if you follow the money, that’s all it’s about. They know that throwing a $ocial tantrum equals money, big screen TV’s, or some other raided loot.

It “terrorism for sale”...a “protection racket.

I’ve listened to, watched it, and lived it since the late 1950’s, and the whole world has been laid out for them...and the more they’re given, the more they want. The bar has been lowered so far, it’s like one of Obama’s infamous “red lines”...you just step over it.

Jamileh King says cheating is OK. The Liberal race whores say cheating is OK. Since lying and cheating are done at the highest levels of government, then it is OK for everyone to do so. The liars and cheaters are simply following the lead of those in power who should be setting an example of fidelity and honesty. However, those in power do not do so. Is it any wonder why morals and ethics are dismissed as passe’ and only for the morons who still believe that playing by the rules is an honorable thing to do?

The rule with teams of this caliber (JRW) is that they don’t play TOGETHER as a team before the tournament.

The league brings in the best kids they can from all of the teams available in the local geographic area, the definition of local is gray.

A lot of the kids in question on JRW may have been from the suburbs but they played travel ball in the Chicago area.

They also didn’t play as a team TOGETHER before the tournament, JRW put together a team from their best available to go.

A team that BROKE that rule and played TOGETHER as a team for a whole season before entering the tournament (they all moved to the area from all over the country and Central and South America specifically to be on this team) was Team Miami in 2008.

LL disqualified them because they broke that rule:

http://www.miaminewtimes.com/2008-08-14/news/kendall-little-league-cheaters/

“Ricky Rivera tells the story like a fisherman recalling the time he battled the big catch and lost, chuckling without shame at the doomed mismatch.

His is the tale of the bionic 12-year-old baseball players.

Last month, local Little League All-Star teams began competing in the worldwide, two-month tournament that would determine the teams to play in the national Little League World Series, which begins August 15. For their playoff opener, Rivera’s Homestead All-Stars faced the Kendall-Hammocks Optimist (KHO) league All-Stars.

Whatever hopes Rivera’s 12-year-old players harbored for making it all the way to the nationally televised tournament in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, were dashed by the first inning.

The first six Kendall batters deposited the Homestead pitcher’s offerings cleanly beyond the 200-foot home-run fence. The next inning, those same hitters switched to left-handed and smashed six more home runs. Kendall coach Nestor Miranda was using Rivera’s ace pitcher for batting practice.

But hitting, it turns out, wasn’t KHO’s specialty — pitching was. At an age when most pitchers clock 40-mile-per-hour fastballs, Miranda had six starters who could easily throw 70.

Rivera’s players couldn’t manage a foul tip. By the third inning, with Kendall winning 20-0, the scoreboard operator mercifully took the rest of the night off.”.........................

This Team Miami made JRW look like beginners.

These were the best kids from all over the USA, South America, and the Caribbean, all flown in for the express purpose of winning the LLWS and they would have done so, hands down.

They were disqualified for playing together as a team for a season before the tournament, the team that goes is supposed to be assembled from the best of the kids on each team in a league.

JRW is accused of bringing in some kids from outside the league, but not from outside the state, or country.

They also did not play together as a team before the tournament.

Furthermore, FOREIGN TEAMS are allowed to bring in kids from a wide geographical area and ARE NOT held to the same standards as American teams.

LLWS has screwed the pooch this time.

No. Their cheating on the residency rules stripped them of the trophy. Hopefully, the players learned an important lesson about obeying the rules.

Yes Jemimah, it was racism. They monkeyed with the boundary lines so as to exclude white players, and they finally got busted for that cheating.

Surely that is what the author meant by "racism" costing the team, right?

I looked at several article on this because I recall an incident with a team from the Bronx a few year back. Only Brietbart had the reference

Little League International has stripped teams of their honors before. In 1992, Zamboanga, Philippines, which won the title, also used players from outside the team’s boundaries or were too old, and a team from the Bronx, which ultimately finished third, was stripped of its wins because it used pitcher Danny Almonte, who was fourteen.

I remmber the Brox story because the drive bye's interviewed a very dissappoint young black kid on the team about the incident. He didn't claim racism or unfair, he just stated in a very sad tone, "Danny knew how old he was..." got into a car and left...

More on Danny Almonte

Looks like Adults need to follow the rules. From Vancouver Sun:

The investigation, which was first reported by DNAinfo.com, appeared to end in December when the national organization said it had uncovered no violations. But officials said they would reopen the inquiry if new information surfaced. About that time, the organization learned of questions about boundary maps involving multiple leagues. The investigation resumed.

In an interview, Keener said Jackie Robinson West officials expanded the boundaries of their league at the expense of three neighbouring leagues, so that the boundaries included the homes of several players on the team who would not otherwise have been eligible.

The investigation found that at least one district official who had helped redraw the map went to the other teams to ask that they go along with what the team had done, Keener said.

“They (said) ‘We know we took your territory. We shouldn’t have done it, but will you give it to us’ to essentially legitimize it,” Keener said.

The other leagues refused, he said.

So essentionally JRW didn’t break the rules as blatantly bad as some other teams so therefor all is OK. Got it.

If LL can certify that NO other American team in the tournament had a single kid from outside the geographic area, then they would have justification for this action 6 months after the tournament is over.

You and I both know they can’t.

Team Miami was disqualified long before they got to the LLWS.

The time to bring this up was during the Regionals.

Two wrongs never make a right.

It wasn’t brought to their attention untill AFTER the Regionals. Justice delayed but justice nonetheless.

BTW, I believe your rational is specious.

It’s like saying just because some bank robbers are never caught we shouldn’t arrest any bank robbers.
