I find it interesting how knock-offs try to tweak the original’s specialness out of the formula. For example, NCIS is to me a show built around the relationships between the agents. NCIS:LA took the concept and tried to make it glitzy. The result was just another cop show. NCIS:NO reassembled the relationship part of the core writing and seems to be a better show than LA.
I wish writers would remember that plotlines are supposed to support character development and not the other way around.
Indeed. They keep floating the idea of redoing The Rockford Files. Won’t work, and it never will. If you watch the interviews and read the bios of the creators (Roy Huggins, Stephen Cannell) the whole damn thing was built around the character, and James Garner is/was about the only actor who could tote the role.
