If I take a cut at someone with my real blade, they would die or lose a limb. Steel armor would not matter unless it was tungsten carbide alloy or the like.
This is fake or just plain nuts.

It might. A good sword might cut into plate armor. But armor existed for a long time, and for a good reason. It worked. It gave the armored fighter an advantage over his opponent.
