After biting two people within three months a police officer and a doughnut shop worker a Coconut Creek police dog has been bounced off the force..
Renzo, a 4-year-old Belgian Malinois, had been with the department about a year and a half. In November, he bit a Coconut Creek officer while tracking a suspect, wounding the officer's leg.
In a more severe attack last week, Renzo burst from a squad car and tore into a doughnut shop employee's calf. The worker has hired a lawyer.

What? the cop didn’t shoot the dog?
Probably too busy trying to save the donuts.
Biting a cop was one thing. But biting a donut shop worker??? That’s REALLY going to get you kicked off a police force!!!!
:-P
PTSD?
So many jokes here...so little time...
The dog violated the “one bite” rule.
Since the dog is a cop, according to the cops, doesn’t he get union representation?
I don’t know much about the breed but according to the American Kennel Club, at the top of the entry, the breed is defined as “Smart, Confident, Hardworking.”

If the dog bit me, I’d settle for medical expanses - AND the pelt. Tanned, if you please. That SOB (literally) is good for nothing but a winter foot warmer.
The dog needs to be sent to the Middle East. Retrain it to attack people on their hands and knees with their butts in the air that like to wear black and carry weapons.
Could be abusive training or handling. Who knows? Or the dog could just be burnt out and turned mean.
Hmm, I’ll bet the cop ordered jelly and the worker gave him creme, in which case the bite would be justified.
I have done some hunt training with my dogs with a man that also helps the military train attack dogs. The military uses the Belgian malinois because, according to the trainer, “their favorite thing to do is bite.” Our military guys that use them send the dogs in first and know to stay behind the dogs because the dogs go after whatever is in front of them once they’re released.
Interesting. Would you say Smart, Confident, Hardworking” are apt descriptions or can any of those terms vary?
Well there ya go. Its a Malanois just being a Malanois.

How do they continue to function?

Well, not to characterize a breed, but the Mals that I have been around in the schutzhund/IPO world can be a bit touched. And, from what I understand, the not-so-good ones end up on police forces (i.e. not suitable for the sport for one reason or another).
And, knowing quite a few K9 officers, they are generally not the most suitable sorts of handlers for most Mals. I wouldn’t write this off as a bad dog without knowing more about the handler, the training of both, and the circumstances.
Before they remove him from the force, the dog should be taken off the street and given a desk job until the matter can be fully investigated.
I think they are pretty similar to German Shepherds, but Malinois are leaner and more agile, Shepherds are stockier and tougher.
