Joan Rivers Fans Furious Over Oscars' In Memoriam Snub

Viewers of Sunday night's Academy Awards ceremony weren't laughing when the In Memoriam tribute left out legendary comedian Joan Rivers.

Rivers, whose film credits include "Spaceballs," "Rabbit Test," and the documentary "A Piece of Work," passed away Sept. 4, but she wasn't included in the annual tribute to those Hollywood has lost in the previous year. This year's montage honored actor Robin Williams, actress Lauren Bacall, and director Mike Nichols, among others.

Entertainment journalists and fans spoke up on Rivers' behalf on Twitter, with many mocking the Academy's decision to recognize a marketing executive in the process.

Noted and agree Harold could have been mentioned. One of my favorite memories of his acting was in “As Good as it Gets” as the doctor brought in to treat Helen Hunt’s ailing son. But the article was about Joan Rivers. I do have to say I’d forgotten about her being a commentator for past Oscar shows. But that’s only because I stopped watching it since the time Whoopie Goldberg was host and I ended up destroying a perfectly good remote control by flinging it at the TV. It’s become far too much about everything but movies.

For actors it is their "IT'S ALL ABOUT MEEEEEEEEEEE!" moment. It's what they lives, works and dies for...............

My memories of Harold started when I was around 1977-78. I was 12 and I would sleep over my buddy’s house. His parents were always out late with business dinner functions and we would stay up as late as we want, eat cheap Totinos pizzas, play pool and around midnight watch SCTV.

Ramis, Flaherty, Candy, O’hara etc. Great laughs even for a kid. Liked SCTV more that SNL.

He died right before the last Oscars and I think they gave him the tribute then.

She was much more of a TV/Nightclub comedienne that a movie star.

She also was instrumental in making Oscar night and especially the red carpet the huge TV gala it is today. Something should have been said.

He might’ve been only mentioned by Bill Murray though. Shame if he wasn’t given a real mention on the list.

That was pretty much my upbringing, too! And I liked SCTV much more as well. Bobby Bittman, the Schmenge Brothers, that Japanese guy with the talk show, the Five Neat Guys ... It all still cracks me up!

great recall Jenny. Five Neat Guys - damn.

How about Monster Creature Horror Theater in 3D. Scary.

My Mom was very sick in the hospital a few years ago and I pulled out my iPhone and on youtube played 2 SCTV skits, a celebrity boxing match being called by “Cosell” and a rather long, goofy Masterpiece Theatre type - something like King and Pope.

We were busting up. Good medicine for the sick.

Right before she passed away, she said to rolling cameras, “We all know Michelle is a tranny. It’s okay.” Bet that is why they canned her at the Oscars.
