Scooter was never a ‘’lap cat’’, if you know what I mean but he was loveable in his own way. Most feral male cats will recognize an
alpha male’’ cat or even a male human and do what’s called a ‘’submissive roll over’’, It’s submissive gesture that is part deference and a bonding gesture of trust. He’d do that for every time I came home from work or when I’d been out some where. I’d pet him and nuzzle a little bit and then that was that. It was our ritual for fourteen years. But his diabetes led him to be unpredictable— calm one minute and then suddenly aggressive and growling at us. I don’t think a shelter would have accepted him. He’s at peace now. His pain is over. It’s my broken heart that has to mend.
