I’ve only seen part of one episode of this show - what is it about? Is it a comedy? I read somewhere that it is a spin off of Breaking Bad (which I have never seen, but it is on my list to watch all of the episodes if I ever get time).

It’s a Breaking Bad PREQUEL. I would classify it as a “dramedy.” A drama chock full of comedy.

You raise a good question. Even though this show is a prequel, I would recommend watching "Breaking Bad" first, and then "Better Call Saul" second.

I’d say it is more of a dramedy, it is funny, but there is a serious storyline going on too. It’s a prequel to Breaking Bad, focused on one of the side characters from that show, the “criminal lawyer” (emphasis on criminal), Saul Goodman.

As others said, it’s both a drama and dark comedy. One point of confusion if you aren’t familiar is the main character’s name. His name is Jimmy McGill, and his older brother Chuck (who has a phobia about magnetic waves) is a partner in the largest law firm in town. He is trying to get them to buy his brother out, since he can’t work, but they don’t want to and his Chuck keeps saying he will “beat this thing”. The firm is also trying to get him to stop using McGill, since it’s part of their name too. We know from Breaking Bad he is known later as Saul Goodman. In this episode we learn it’s from “s’all good man”.

I recommend watching it from the beginning if you have on demand. You don’t really need to watch Breaking Bad first, it works on it’s own.

I liked the part when there was nothing but trees around and suddenly a car comes out of nowhere and nearly ditches into a gully. Then fade to black and suddenly somebody’s knocking on a door. That was pretty awesome.
