What a PC self-righteous putz. I am surprised the guy did not say we should immediately put Obama on the $20.

"The Trail of Tears is one of the largest-scale acts of ethnic cleansing in history"

Really! How about what happened to the Carthaginians, what Julius Caesar did to Gaul, what happened to the Jews after the two failed revolts against the Romans, would what the Mongols did all over the Eurasian continent count as one or would each leader get their own award, and let us not forget what happened during and after WW II, or the Jews being forced to relocate from all over the Middle East to Israel.

It won’t be long before they go after the guy on the one-dollar bill, because he owned slaves.

Jackson would not want his face on any Federal Reserve note. He fought against a central bank way back when.

Good. Let’s put Reagan on the $20.00 bill then.

Or the Turks genocide of Armenian Christians, and Jews. More than 2 million.

This writer is an a@@. Jackson was too, but nowhere near the Turks or Genghis Khan or....

Jackson was one of the founding fathers of the Democrat party so I’m not surprised.

Andrew Jackson, is if not the worst president we’ve ever had (he’s at least in the running alongside Andrew Johnson), definitely the worst president who shows up in lists of the best presidents.

Seriously, having his face on the money cements his place as one of “the greats” among most Americans because most Americans seem to know nothing about the man. There is not a single significant accomplishment of his administration that you can defend today as a positive thing.

Oh I don’t know about that.

I know that the writer is a Dimocrat but how can you pass on the fact that Jackson is the only president to leave office with the republic absolutely debt free.

That is an unparalleled accomplishment.

Sounds like the perfect embodiment of the Democrat Party, right down to the current occupant of the White House.

Okay, hyperbolic overstatements aside, there is enough reason to object to Jackson being on our money: besides the Trail of Tears deportation, which removed not savages who threatened war on civilized folks, but precisely the tribes that had earned the name “The Five Civilized Tribes” because they had adapted so well to European ways, his banking policy was a model of corruption and cronyism.

Replace him with Reagan.

If I want real historical grievances against my country, the Trail of Tears ranks number one, followed by our behaviy or in the Philippines after the Spanish American War, and the internment of Japanese-Americans during WW II. Our misfortune at having been colonized and then founded as a nation a little before Christendom decided slavery was evil and went about stamping it out everywhere possible doesn’t even rank. (And, I can come up with a few more things I find more blameworthy than that misfortune, but they were done by proxies, not Americans directly.)

The only irony that I find is Jackson absolutely hated and despised fiat paper currency.

Arthur Chu is a foolish leftist who doesn’t even understand the ugly leftist philosophy that he champions.

Ask any leftist idiot whether or not they are in favor of “land reform” and 95% of them will say “of course I am”.

The Indian massacres and mass expulsions are the absolutely perfect embodiment of leftist “land reform” fantasies.

The Indians were wealthy land-owners. Their wealth was forcibly redistributed to “the people”. According to leftist dogma, “they had it coming”. Joe Biden is out there proclaiming the same basic idea.

So, in fact, Andrew Jackson should unquestionably be celebrated by them as a leftist icon with a stature equal to Marx, Lenin and Stalin for his actions in furthering their redistributionist wet dreams.

And yes, I’d love to talk about Iran-Contra and the Libya bombing, I’d love to talk about the air traffic controllers and the savings and loan crisis.

Let’s talk about the air traffic controllers.

Their strike was illegal and they knew it. Reagan gave them a deadline to go back to work or be fired. They ignored that deadline called what they believed to be Reagan’s bluff and lost.

They deserved to be fired.

Let’s talk about the Libyan bombing.

Libya’s Gaddafi had been sponsoring terror organizations and attacks throughout the world and was developing nuclear weapons.

Then Gaddafi attacked a US Navel exercise in the Gulf of Sidra firing missiles and attacking with Corvettes and Mig 23s

After the attack on Libya Gaddafi went quite for about a decade. So I believe Reagan’s actions proved effective.

TRUE!!!
yesterday I paid someone with some $20s and joked that if it were today Andrew Jackson would not be put on the $20 bill due to him leading wars against the American Indians. He was known as the Indian Killer

internet:
“Andrew Jackson: A man nicknamed “Indian killer” and “Sharp Knife” surely deserves the top spot on a list of worst U.S. Presidents.”

I am not particularly a fan of AJ, but this part is just stupid.

“Heroically breaking a treaty with the Creeks to slaughter them wholesale.”

The Creeks attacked first, breaking the treaty, and in rather spectacular fashion.

They captured Fort Mims, due to the idiocy of the defenders. (The commander had the slaves who reported the approaching Creeks whipped for spreading rumors!) The Creeks killed something between 250 and 400 whites, blacks, dissident Creeks. Many as usual women and children.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Mims_massacre

http://www.canerossi.us/ftmims/massacre.htm

The attack was more or less an episode in an ongoing civil war among the Creeks, but the whites in the SW can be forgiven for not being all that concerned about which Creeks were which after so many whites were killed.

Fort Mims Massacre was August 1813. Jackon didn’t counterattack the Creeks till November. He was also at the time merely a militia general. Odd to saddle him with the responsibility for deciding whether to fight the Creeks.

There are lots of reasons to disapprove of AJ, but breaking a treaty with the Creeks isn’t one of them.
