February was Boston's snowiest month in history, when 64.9 inches fell, 34.3 inches fell in January. Only 2.9 inches had fallen in November and December, before the onslaught of snow began at the end of January.
The season snowfall record is measured from July 1 through June 30, and takes in autumn and spring.
Forecasters note snow can still mount up this year. March 1993 had 38.9 inches, and March 1916 had 33.

Case point made...that we are indeed experiencing Global Warming!
My daughter is in college. The three snowiest winters in Boston’s recorded history have occurred in her lifetime.
Global Warming? I’m not seeing it.
You have not seen anything yet. The next ten winters will get progressively colder. In a few years, entire small town’s and villages will be completely burried during the worse winters any of us have ever experienced. We got a small taste of that this winter in Italy. And only man made global warming could save those towns and villages.
With all the cold does that not indicate the caps are freezing ice, not melting ice?
Don’t see anyone making that correlation.
Last week it was what was the worst New England winter around Boston? He went to various libraries and really did the research. Some had thought 1888. No, it was 1717. It was a frightful but interesting account; it was the drifting that made it especially bad. The problem is that people probably won't accept Cotton Mather's quote about it and didn't have accurate measuring methods.
The headline buries the truth.
This winter breaks ALL snowfall records going back to 1872, including a record set 20 years ago.
“February was Boston’s snowiest month in history,”
—
Ridiculous comment.
.
Sure, but them the headline will be “Heaviest snow in 12 months!”
Drive faster!
Freeze a Yankee!
With a bit of luck,
the frozen Yankee will be
John Forbes Kerry!
That means that we at back in the cold 1970’s in general with some spectacular local anomalies. And heading even colder. All potential man made warming erased in just a few years by lowered solar activity. Factually, it was all due to solar activity. The warmth of the 90’s and the cold of the 2010’s. As someone pointed out, due to the urban heat effect, it should almost be impossible for cities to break these long term cold or snow records. Especially since the government stooges are putting temp sensors near runways.
Why? .
More snow proves global warming.
Only 2.9 inches had fallen in November and December
Less snow proves Global warming.
Can I get a job with NASA now?
Because we haven’t been keeping weather statistics for all of history.
.
-40 in Fairbanks this morning.
We were at +34 on New Years Eve.
Nothing outside of the records up here this year.
Same same.
But i read that snowfall was measured after the storm was over, while today they measure newly fallen snow every so often and then add up the totals.
The interglacial period is over.
True, but if we're talking about the history of "Boston" then "all of history" for Boston isn't all that long in the grand scheme of things :).
Looks like we may learn what the typical weather patterns are for Earth during the Ice Age. For all we know, Jupiter Eye like storms may develop semi permanently. Or at least until we get to the next inter glacial.
I think it reasonable to conclude that history is the record kept or else prehistoric would have no meaning. As such the “snowiest month in history” and the “snowiest month on record” mean the same thing
