In the 388,000 miles of the 422K on it that I drove, I put ONE wheel bearing on it, and had an AC hose fixed. Besides tunes tires, oil changes, bulbs, and brakes, that was the ONLY major work I had to do on it.

Great!

Consumer Reports would call you a liar - but then again CR seems to hate Jeeps.

Those are some good looking hounds.

My friend who is a mechanic has a large piece of property. He has a pond on his land also, and sometimes hunters come by, sometimes young folks come by to drink and screw, etc. One time, he had a thief. They guy was trying to break into one of his car trailers. He owns 2 German Sheppard dogs.

The thief took one look and saw the light.

When is the Jeep Pickup Truck coming out?

I don't know. Good question. I know custom shops can make them into pickups, but I don't know about a stock build.

Thanks for your thoughts on this. I don’t need to do any recreationl off-roading. I just need to get through sometimes deep snow in winter time and have something to take into the woods to get my deer.

History of a ‘Little Black Jeep”
Era 1955. Jim Rathmann, Indy Race Driver, owned a small auto shop in Miami. He and his staff built a frame, placed a flathead Mercury engine in it. Then placed a WW2 new factory Jeep body on it.
It was originally meant to be an advertising vehicle.
A friend of mine, Bob B., who worked at Rathmann’s, bought said Jeep and raced it a the Sunday Drags around Florida.. For along time most people thought it had a Chev. overhead in it.
Sorry, I have no pics.

The issue WRT the wide wheel track is the inherent instability that it produces.

The relationship between the length of the wheel base, and the width of the track is the most important factor in overall stability.

Dividing the wheel base by the width of the track gives the coefficient of stability. The larger that dividend is, the stabler the vehicle will be in conditions of uneven traction, such as snow or ice.

Jeeps, having a short wheel base, are naturally unstable, and a wide track exacerbates the problem.

A special edition produced by Hot Rod magazine in 1958 had photos of that jeep, among other “military” themed rods.

I don’t know if any of that stuff is available online.

Thanks so much for that info. I live in Wisconsin and we get our share of snow. I will consider something else. Thanks for taking the time to answer.

Jeep produced a pickup version of the Cherokee, called the Comanche, in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s.

My dad owned one of these when I was growing up. His was a '76 Golden Eagle and it was his first Jeep. He took a one-way flight to Detroit to pick it up from the factory. He has owned nothing but Jeeps since then. Sadly, I have not seen any Golden Eagles on the road since the late '80s or so. This was a fun Jeep to drive.

Don't shoot me but I love my '04 Jeep Liberty. Bought it to match my FR handle.

That’s a nice one, and a 2004 and you drive it. New car salesmen must hate you.

Now you are bring me way back. A 1976 Golden Eagle. Wow.

We had some really snow today - and ice. Driving was rough, but I put the Jeep into 4WD and it was fine. My biggest worry was the cars sliding all around me. One guy went sideways in the opposite direction lane and scarred the dickens out me. Another guy pulled out right in front me - even with the great Jeep brakes I almost hit him.

Then, when I was almost home, I saw an old Wagoneer, very similar to this one.

Someone must have thought: "tough roads, time to get the old girl out of the garage."
