Obama was born in Kenya and nobody cares. So why should they care now.

My understanding is yes-—According to Judge Napalitano-—if at least one of your parents is a US citizen.

Wondering though....would this qualify Barry Soetoro-—even if born outside the US?

Yes. His mother was old enough and had lived enough years in the US after age 17 to confer citizenship, unlike Obama’s mother.

If by “nobody” you mean “the MSM” then the answer is obvious.

Obama’s mom was too young to confer citizenship under the law at the time.

Democrats are sure to remind voters of Cruz's Canadian birth since some on the right have questioned where President Obama was born.

Really. So why does NPR suddenly decide to write serious articles about Cruz when they didn't for Obama?

Come on now!

We’ve already had one Concern Troll thread today on Cruz’s citizenship eligibility issue.

Do we really need another?

Sorry, but if the term “natural born citizen” is defined in the Constitution, Congress has no business redefining it by statute.

An amendment, such as 14A, can potentially change who is NBC, but not a law.

Hussein has overturned any Citizenship requirements. That can only be changed back by nullification of his entire presidency and all his works like appointments, new regulations, laws signed by him.

It seems like the article ran off the rails early by referring to parents as “residents”, not even specifying “lawful” or “permanent” residents, not that I think it makes any difference. Based on my understanding of the issue, I don’t think “residency” has any bearing on the matter.

If the person is born in the US, their parents’ residency makes no difference (except in VERY narrow cases such as the parents were diplomats from another country).

If the person is born outside the US, the fact that his or her parents might have had lawful status as a permanent resident of the United States does nothing for them, in my understanding.

This is a topic where words have definitions, and the definitions matter, and if you don’t get them straight, you waste everyone’s time.

I suspect it’s at least partly because all agree Cruz was born outside USA. Arguments against Obama being NBC often, though not always, turned on other issues.

Possibly I’m wrong, but it always seemed to me the “born in Kenya or possibly Canada” was a minority position among those who challenged his eligibility.

“Democrats are sure to remind voters of Cruz’s Canadian birth since some on the right have questioned where President Obama was born.”

Um, I think Democrats just did, right then. Check the definition of “apophasis”.

NPR doesn’t have standing to ask this question.
