DALLAS, TX (WBTV) - Monday afternoon a seven-year-old miracle Lenoir boy had his dream come true. A local non-profit group helped him meet his hero, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo.
Dream On 3, a group that grants sports-related wishes for sick children, worked to coordinate a surprise trip for Timothy Brookshire. Timothy has had complications since birth. He lives with a congenital heart defect, cleft lip and palate, a chromosomal disorder AND a rare form of cancer that involves his autoimmune system. He has had 58 surgeries. Hospice has been involved. Yet, Timothy is proving everyone wrong.
WBTV was there when Dream On 3 unveiled the Dallas trip to him two weeks ago at Levine Children's Hospital. See WBTV's Molly Grantham's story here.
We now have pictures and video of the actual meeting.
What made it the meeting even more remarkable is that Timothy's dad, John Brookshire, is with the Army National Guard. We can not say where he is based, but he has not seen his family for months.
John tells us his military higher ups saw Molly's story. After watching it, SPC Brookshire was granted a special leave to be with his son during the surprise.
But no one told Timothy or his family.

Romo may not have won the Super bowl but he is still a winner.
I agree. From the footage, Romo seems like a very classy guy. And what they all did for that precious little boy and his mom and sisters by arranging for his dad to get a special leave to be there with them is a wonderful thing.
