Uplifts have long bothered geologists. This sounds like at least a partial answer.

water trapped deep below Earth’s crust may have flooded the lower crust

Ahhhhhhhhhhh. The fountains of the deep. I suppose if such vast water reserves were to break free they might even carve out the grand canyon in a surprisingly short amount of time. Perhaps these fountains of the deep might explain a great many things. I'm glad the geologists are finally coming around.

“It’s like flooding Colorado from below,” Jones said.

I still believe it was flooded from above.

“About 70 million years ago, eastern Colorado, southeastern Wyoming, western Kansas, and western Nebraska were near sea level. Since then, the region rose about 2 kilometers, leading to some head scratching at geology conferences.
“ How do they know that? Was it exactly 70 million to the day, or a few million years? How was that measured? “Curious minds want to know.”

Why is Denver a mile high?

Because it is...roughly.

Because someone else already reserved the two mile high level.

When I lived in Western Kansas the elevation was around 2100 feet, probably a bit higher. That is as high as some of the smaller mountains in the East.

I bet the Eastern Colorado plains is a bit higher.

.
They’re too busy denying the Genesis catastrophe to figure out any of these simple and obvious things.

It was 4500 years ago, not 75 million or billion or any of their fantasies.

Pangaea was broken up by volcanic eruptions, and hot water surged up through the cracks killing everything in the Earth.

.

Aren’t the Great Plains just the alluvium shed from the Rockies? I am not sure what their quandary is. Do they want a repeat of the Cretaceous seaway?

Some time ago I read an article that said the Wind River range in WY used to be 60,000' tall? WOW! I wonder what THAT would look like when driving from the east, or how far away you could see them?

Why Is Denver a Mile High?

It's trying to get away from Kansas.

Maybe they could take a moment and explain why so many idiots think that Denver is the highest point in Colorado.
I’ve been asked that on more than one occasion, and it scrambles my brain every time. Something about the slogan “Mile High City” makes people think it is more notable than it is.
Our house is at almost 8,000 feet, and we live in the foothills. Alma, Colorado has people living at nearly 12,000 feet, and Leadville has them at around 10,000.
Ugh. Dumb people.
