Never use silicone oil to build an engine.

I'm talking about squeaky things around the home — hinges and such.

I haven't rebuilt an engine in 40 years and won't be doing so any time soon.

Yup silicone is good for squeeky things around the house. If you want to turn a good engine into junk, try silicone spray as an assembly lube.
