Republican senator Rand Paul walked out of a live interview with the Guardian on Friday, in the third testy exchange he has had with a journalist since launching his campaign for president three days ago.
Paul, who said during his campaign launch on Tuesday he would like to see any law that disproportionately incarcerates people of color is repealed, responded awkwardly when asked which specific piece of legislation he would repeal.
In a live broadcast via the smartphone app Periscope, Paul said he had a host of bills that would amend or repeal part of the statute.
Midway through his answer, he added: Let me answer the question, you complain I dont answer the question I am giving you the specifics.
Paul spoke about the various pieces of bipartisan legislation he has brought to reform the criminal justice system, but did not point to a specific criminal law that he would repeal.
In his final question, he was asked about research showing that white Republicans do not agree with his view that the criminal law is applied in an unequal fashion.
I think your premise is incorrect, he said. Actually I think I can take that message into a white evangelical church anywhere in Iowa and give exactly the same speech and be received well.
When the reporter attempted a follow-up remark quoting a Washington Post-ABC poll about Republican views on criminal justice, Paul walked off camera.

To me that was the most upsetting during the last presidential debates hosted by liberals. All the Republican debaters were pretty much cowed by the hosts except for one instance where Newt Gingrich fired back over a stupid question asked and he was chastised for it.
Yeppers...when Paul was here in soviet Red Hampshire a few days back; those ads were all over local television...
Why just white evangelicals in Iowa who will accept his message of repealing laws that dissporotionately incarcerate blacks ?
Why just Iowa ? Why not ask white evangelicals through out the whole country ?
Something smells fishy with Rand Paul.
Paul is great where he is, but is in over his head at this time running for president.
Cruz totally outmatches him on every level.
Those who don’t like Paul need to realize he is demonstrating the correct treatment of the media.
The MEDIA determine who wins elections, and what laws get made, and they are the ones who literally rule the low info voters. ALL of the info those people do have comes from left wing media.
Bravo to Paul for treating the media not like kings but as our servants.
He is a fruit cake like his father.
He doesnt have to stand for their actions ....
...any law that disproportionately incarcerates people of color is repealed...
Even if they are also disproportionately guilty?
You can look at the general lawlessness of hip-hop culture that the “yoots” in the black community are largely enthralled with and understand why the disproportionate incarceration occurs.
If more purple youths are enthralled with a culture that romanticizes and promotes criminal behavior, then I would rationally expect to see more purple youths incarcerated, profiled, pulled over, involved with drugs, in gangs, etc.
What I don’t get is how these folks don’t see/understand the obvious. It must be exhausting to vigilantly maintain that level of politically correct intellectual dishonesty.
Watch the video. Its the end of the interview, the reporter says One more question, Rand answers, then the reporter asks another. Then Rand walks.
So he didn’t “storm off”. He answered every question that he said he would answer.
I’m with you. I believe most of the disproportionate incarcerations of blacks and Hispanics over whites and Asians is the fault of those individuals and their families. The previous generation has to have lived according to moral and societal rights. They should all be working to get out or stay out of poverty, and they shouldn’t have children until they are working and married, or at least have plenty of money.
If an individual refuses a life of crime and refuses to procreate, and instead works hard until age 30 before having a child they can afford, they won’t go to jail. And this is easier when mom and dad chose the same path.
A close friend of mine, the all-knowing Dr. 2Brains, was just banned from this site for pointing out that certain minority groups (guess who) cannot excel at higher math the way another ethnic group (guess which one) can.
Sam Donaldson: “Mr. President, in talking about the continuing recession tonight you have blamed the mistakes of the past, and you have blamed the Congress. Does any of the blame belong to you?”
President Reagan: “ Yes, because for many years I was a Democrat.”
Wow, absolutely excellent. Wow.
Iowa is caucus state. There will be something like 100,000 caucus straw votes for presidential preference. Of that total, a certain percent (10-25%) will leave after the straw vote and won’t have an impact. To appeal to few thousand motivated home schoolers who are overwhelmingly cultural conservatives while maintaining his appeal to culturally liberal dopers requires concessions to both. No mystery. The ‘repeal laws’ sop is to druggies, not just blacks.
That was nice of you to open an account on the day your good friend was banned, after he had already been here for years.
You are just out to make me laugh daily, now, aren’t you?? Rofl!
She is just about the worst candidate that ever announced.
-I lie about everything I’ve ever said
- I only killed one ambassador as head of State
- I came to power by pretending I cared that my rapist husband cheated on me
- I killed One of my law partners and conceived my child with my other one
- my lesbian lover is from a leadership family in the muslim brotherhood
- I have a hot temper and I lie about really stupid things
Please elect me President.
He didn’t “walk out”. Paul haters can go back to DU where they belong.
The only thing fishy is just how twisted the left’s (and some GOP-e) knickers are over Paul.
John McCain gave good interviews. So did Willard.
Maybe we need to run one of them again...
/smh sarcasm
So when Paul says “I got time for one more question”, then the interviewer says “One more question”, Asks the question, Paul answers then moves on. How is that walking out of an interview?
I am always thinking of others...
