I remember. I avoided town the whole weekend. Especially after 4 pm.

It is a different world and actually when I grew up was a different world from my parents.

My Grandmother’s First Cousin, 12 year old Bessie Morrison was raped and murdered by 3 Black men in Leonia, Florida. She was the same age as Grandmother and they were best friends.

The perpetrators were caught, questioned, and immediately shot to death. A fourth Black man was determined to be innocent and released. When people today criticize these men, they are critical of their betters.

My Daddy was crazy. Mother told me she was sometimes afraid of what he might do. He was a man of action and got away with things which today would get you in serious trouble. Daddy’s First Cousin was golden gloves champion of Florida. That whole family was tough. Interestingly the girls were as gentle as lambs but they too had an inner toughness.
