She’s a republican; The former 37 year serving mayor a democrat. In a town of 740, I bet there was a lot of nepotism in those jobs. And possibly covered up corruption.

Six police officers in a town of 700 people? That is very odd. . . . Kirk said her shop has been burglarized nine times over the past decade.

Hate to be judgmental, but it sounds like they have the type of citizenry where they could use a dozen. Or six which actually did their jobs.

Like any of these black supermajority southern farmland towns it’s dying...

Actually, the town is about 65% white.

Because the new mayor is a Republican, and the folks bolting may be doing so ahead of a decades long spree of corruption by Democrats gets exposed.

But the article wants to create the perception that there’s a racial issue here, through selective presentation and ommission of facts.

Hi.

Perhaps these officers knew what an incompetent she is.

Possibly, or it could also mean that after 37 yrs of Rat rule, the place resembles Chicago.

The new mayor is a Republican, apparently. Assumptions/knee-jerk reactions need to be checked.

Is this really true? Oh man, this would be great. Of course the media would hide this fact.

What’s do dumb ass about it?

The police seemed to have resigned due to a lack of confidence in the new mayor.

Winning on an anti-corruption platform, I suspect they lacked confidence that she would keep the river of graft flowing like the old mayor did.

I think I like this town. It’s in the Missouri boot heel which is a pretty conservative location and is a short drive from where Rush Limbaugh was born and raised. I’m not surprised that she’s a Republican.

“Black female Republican becomes mayor, exposes and confronts corruption, Democrat cronies resign en masse” doesn’t fit the narrative.

“Black female becomes mayor, white civil servants abandon their jobs” does.

I am betting you are right. We have a county of 380,000 people which has been trending GOP. In the 2011 municipal elections, the Democrats lost every row office on the ballot and control of the commission for the first time since the Eisenhower administration. There was a mass exodus at every level of country government. It also turned out that one of the former commissioners signed an over inflated long term lease with the country for additional office space on downtown building which he personally purchased for pennies on the dollar.

This type of crap is standard protocol in places where one party or faction stays in power for too long.

I say party or faction because the GOP has run large swaths of counties and municipalities in conservative parts of the Rocky Mountain states for years with minimal corruption. But this is because the TEA party types regularly take out the GOPe types from time to time.

I didn't assert anything, "perhaps" means maybe....or maybe not.

If she had let it be known that she was going to fire everyone in order to make her administration “more inclusive” then yes, if I were an employee there, I would quit.

However, usually in small towns mayors don’t usually have a party affiliation.

How does a town of 700 even fund their own department? That’s barely even considered a town.
