Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao Fight Turning Into a Debacle (contracts still not signed)
Business Insider ^ | APR. 22, 2015, 10:40 AM | Tony Manfred

With 10 days to go until the Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao fight, contracts aren't signed, tickets aren't on sale, and the fight that could save boxing is instead reflecting the flaws that continue to damage it.

While the two camps agreed to the fight in February, they've yet to sign the contract, ESPN's Darren Rovell reports.

As a result, tickets to both the fight at the MGM Grand and the closed-circuit viewings at MGM properties around Las Vegas haven't been released for sale.

Ticket sales are expected to generate $72 million, but a week and a half before the fight, no one has a ticket. The two sides reportedly made progress on Tuesday, but the contract remains unsigned as of Wednesday morning.

Pacquiao's promoter, Top Rank, is blaming Mayweather Promotions, and vice versa.

Oscar De La Hoya, whose Golden Boy Promotions used to promote Mayweather's fights, blamed Floyd's camp for the delay, which he called "shocking."

"This is mind-boggling. This is shocking, but at the same time, we understand what is going on," he told Iole. "This is the Al factor. This is what you get when you deal with Al."

De La Hoya taunted the fighters on Twitter, offering a free ticket to the Canelo Alvarez-James Kirkland to any fan who sent him a picture of their Mayweather-Pacquiao ticket, which don't exist:

Mayweather is still afraid of PacMan. He is more worried about his unbeaten streak. What a coward.

In the end, he will make sure this fight never happens. At least until Manny is 50 years old.

If that happens, Manny needs to "take off the gloves" and call out Mayweather as the coward he is.

I remember me and 15 of my friends used to watch Iron Mike before going out to pick up, that doesn’t exist anymore. The Klitchko brothers have reigned forever. People blame it on the competition. No, they are just giant and mobile and ridiculously powerful freaks of nature.

:: but a week and a half before the fight, no one has a ticket. ::

Really?
And on “fight night” will the seats be completely filled or will these pugilists duke it out in front of no one? HA!
I’d think that, even if no event tickets are sold, the seats at ring-side will be filled and the event will go on.
Vito, Tony and Guido will make themselves available for the various “chumbolone” to get cheap seats in the back, have a few beers and enjoy the hookers.

I would love to see Wladimir go up against Deontay Wilder for the title. I think Wilder would clean Klitchko’s clock. It would be an absolute war.

Mayweather’s a punk. If you think it’s a debacle now, wait’ll they get in the ring (if they ever do). Mayweather will spend half the time clinching and leaning on the back of Pacquiao’s neck with his elbows, not letting Pacquiao stand upright until after the ref breaks them up. Does it ALL the time in his fights and is never penalized for it. Most boring fighter in the world. I wouldn’t spend a nickle to watch it.

Tall and 33 wins no losses. But 215 pounds? That’s almost light heavyweight these days. He does look like a beast though

Actually, boxing just isn’t that big of deal in the inner city any more. The Mike Tyson , Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Sugar Rays out there don’t choose to train in boxing.

Unfortunately, everything is moving to cage fighting crap. In the states anyways.

Which I can’t stand.

The thing is, though, that Pacquiao is a consummate boxer, and if he’s given the slightest chance one combination could take Mayweather down.

I’d sure pay to see that. :-)

(Regardless, it’s always worthwhile to watch Pacquiao!)

Its a good point, Manny has everything to gain and nothing to lose. Money has his undefeated record to protect and everything to lose...

Why are people so in love with Pac-Man? He has 5 losses.
And the one I watched he lost handily. He should have retired then.

Honestly, both these guys are past their primes.

You didn’t see the Pacquiao/De La Cruz fight? Manny slightly rearranged Cruz’ face. Pacquiao NOT A SCRATCH. I think De La Cruz was 40 at the time, but still. Manny looked the same after the fight that he did before the fight.

You can’t always judge a fight by looking at the fighters faces. Some boxers are just prone to cuts/swelling discolorization. I’ve seen boxers look like crap from the first round and still dominate the fight.

I do think “Money” is going to realized the mistake he made if he loses this fight. I’m not sure if a rematch is possible, but it’s boxing. Anything to make more money is possible. Tyson and Holyfield fought for 10 years after they should have retired.

I would give a crap about this if it were 2008, when this should have happened. Want a great night of fights? May 23rd Weidman and Jones on the same ticket will be one to watch!

The Marquez Fight. When he got knocked out, everyone acted as if a boxing “God” was knocked out.
