A woman accidentally shot herself during an incident Monday at a gun range in northwest suburban Crystal Lake.

The 55-year-old was shooting at the pistol range at On-Target at 560 Beechcraft Lane when she was injured just before 12:45 p.m., according to a statement from Crystal Lake police.

The woman fired a shot and a hot, expended shell casing landed inside her shirt, police said. When she tried to remove it, the pistol accidentally discharged and a bullet struck her in the thigh, officials said.

The McHenry resident was taken by ambulance to Centegra Hospital in McHenry for further evaluation, police said. Her condition was not known, and no one else was injured.

Police said they are not investigating the matter further, and no charges will be filed.

You summed this article up quite well.

In the sick twisted anti-freedom, more control mindset, nothing bad should ever occur. If it does, ban it, regulate it, tax it, and or discredit it.

If a finger pulled the trigger it was negligence, not an accidental discharge.

The first European models had no safety the trigger safety was put on so they could meet import points for this country.

It burns, and I have the scar on my neck to prove it.

I’ve had brass land there - taught me to pay more attention to what I’m wearing to the range! But fortunately had enough sense to put the gun down before removing the errant brass.

She’s lucky she shot herself in the leg and not the head.

Had my Glock toss a hot .45 case between my glasses frame and my temple.

I've had a 1911 do that to me. Fortunately I took my finger off the trigger and kept the muzzle downrange while I dealt with it.

“If a finger pulled the trigger it was negligence, not an accidental discharge.”

Agreed, but the non gunner public believes that guns go off all by themselves without any human input......

It serves the anti gunner meme by absolving the person holding the weapon (read victim of the NRA gun lobby) and shifting the blame on “evil” guns.

“The first European models had no safety the trigger safety was put on so they could meet import points for this country.”

That still does not explain why the safety releases when you pull the trigger. Makes no sense, when “accidental” discharges always trace back to someone pulling the trigger when they did not intend to do so.

With out changing the whole design that was the simplest place to put one.

Guns are suppose to bang when you pull the trigger.

Guns are supposed to go bang when you intentionally pull the trigger.

Give me a well positioned thumb safety any day!
