“even though the Food and Drug Administration says aspartame, best known by the brand names Equal and NutraSweet, is “one of the most exhaustively studied substances in the human food supply, with more than 100 studies supporting its safety.”

Oh, if the FDA says it’s safe, then that should settle it for everyone, right?

My default position is that the FDA is presumptively wrong until proven otherwise.

There's no need for FDA involvement to know Aspartame is safe. Diet soda containing Aspartame is no more dangerous for you than a banana or a piece of grilled chicken with a cold beer or a glass of wine.
