When it comes to McDonald's, everyone seems to have an opinion about what the company needs to do differently. After turning in another quarter of sliding sales and profit, McDonald's CEO Steve Easterbrook said the chain will unveil initial details on a plan to turn around its fortunes on May 4. Among the challenges it is facing are intensifying competition and an image for serving junk food that it just can't seem to shake.

Good food.
Good service.
Clean restaurants.

But they’ve lost me for good. I get a burger once every two weeks and I am not giving McDonalds a dime. When I treat myself I go to Five Guys or one of the small gourmet burger joints in town.

The fries tasted better (sadly, well before I was born) because McDonald’s used to fry them in beef tallow. Now they use soybean oil.

We render our own bison when they die of accidents and etc. and the tallow gets saved for deep frying and it is awesome! Beef tallow would probably taste even better and I’d use it if we could get it!

7 hamburgers for a buck.

Not even White Castle can pull that off.

We’re finally getting a Chik-Fil-A here in my small town. No doubt coffin nails for the local McD’s. I also wish someone would create a new Fish & Chips type place. I really think that is an overlooked market. Cod-Fil-A anyone?

and yes, we used to live McD’s

they basically have some reasonably good product designs, it is just that the products themselves seem to have been downgraded in quality

McD: you don;t have to duplicate others but do take a look at the successful new fast food burger joints.... (5 guys, Sonic, In and Out, etc.).

just put a McD burger next to any of the above and anyone can immediately see the large quality difference.

you can adjust size or whatever you wish to deal with price point issues, okay, but .... you have to upgrade your quality as your first step if you want your old, loyal customers back

just saying we don’t want to pay $15 for a couple of lunches and then have to belch them up on the car seat

If you have a local KFC, it is probably toast

My price for fixing McDonalds is

$3,000,000.

They will dither about and think that they can fix it and then it will be too late. American business people are too vain and arrogant to look for help until it is too late for the business. Goodby Ronald.

You are correct about the fries. In 1991, McDonalds stopped frying their fries in beef tallow. They stopped doing it to cowtow to the health nazis, and those health nazis have been proven wrong since about beef fat and heart disease.

They tasted amazing when fried in beef tallow. Even Julia Child was angry about the change in the recipe in 1991. She loved McDonald’s fries.

McDonalds is NOT a food company, it is a real estate company.

I used to have family connections in McDonalds Corporate and that's what they used to say, a real estate company with a system to extract revenue from that real estate. I'd also add that it's a supply and logistics company, and that end of the business is hard to turn on a dime.

Ha! KFC is already gone. County chained the doors because of delinquent back taxes.

That was pink slime, not worms.

The pink slime looks more like a giant pink snake. :)

Use real food ingredients instead of desecrated remnants like pink slime.

Cook using lard and real butter.
Even processed meat tastes good cooked that way.

Go back to beef tallow for french fries; especially since the nonsense about fat has been debunked.

Per store sales would go up at least 10%.

First thing I’d try is rolling back to all the original food production specs. The shakes have changed the burgers have changed the McNuggets have changed and the fries have changed. And I would integrate this with reduction in overhead with an eye toward downward pressure on prices (automatic burger makers).

For a period of time, Wendy’s quality took a hit. Hadn’t had a Wendy’s in many years prior to having a 1/2# double with cheese in an airport last month. It was great. I’ve had five more since then. The quality is back at Wendy’s.
