“What do you think the “Left lane for passing only.””

What state do you live in.

I have never ever seen such a sign.

I believe you they exist. But where I don’t know.

Interesting.

It’s funny how this big government essentially tyranny is accepted here.

Ludicrous laws that do not help.

I guess there are a lot of two lane highways around, but I don’t encounter many.

But a law that says one can only drive in the right lane — ludicrous.

“6 lane highway and 60%of the cars are in the passing lane 30% in the center and almost no one in the right.”

There is no “passing lane” on a six lane highway. And the idea that no one is in the right lane is nuts. Trucks fill the right lane, as do other cars going usually less than the speed limit. Cars that travel 70-80 will be in the left and others at 65-70 or so in the center (by six lane I assume you mean three lane).

“I am a fast driver. I pay my extra fast driving surcharge.”

What in the world is a fast driving surcharge?

“3 miles over the speed limit doesn’t give people the clear to hog the passing lane.”

You mean the fast lane.

Passing lane, you crack me up. Do you sleep on a Davenport?

(just kidding around)

To me a passing lane is when there is a two lane highway and there will be a limited third lane going one of the directions for passing.

The trucker looks to be in on it too as he could have slowed down for 2 seconds and let the Camaro squeeze through.

If you watch the video again, you will see the tractor trailer does slow down. The pickup truck matches this slower speed, and after a short while, the tractor trailer speeds back up. I see absolutely nothing the tractor trailer could have done here: he was completely victimized by the two idiots.

Keep in mind, that truck driver is in a long line of trucks in the right lane. He has very limited ability to slow down as he would be stacking up all of the trucks running behind him. That is the reason he slowed only briefly: He's trying not to cause a massive traffic jam in back of him.

The left lane is for passing in Texas. The DPS will pull you over for hogging it.

“Did you ever get behind the old lady driving 15 miles an hour on a local road where you cannot pass, and your trying to get your kid to his/her event on time.”

One time I was on my way home from work. I took my usual route. I got onto the (3 lane) freeway. The very second I got onto the freeway, I found myself, in the right lane, behind a buick that was cruising at around 30-35 mph. The freeway speed limit was 55, so naturally everyone else except for this guy were driving around 75-80 mph.

I tried to get around this slow moving buick by changing lanes into the middle lane. But there was so much traffic in the middle lane, all going at around 75 mph, that I couldnt merge into that lane. I was stuck behind that buick trailing along at 30-35 mph for a good solid 15 minutes before I FINALLY had an opening and managed to get into the middle lane.

I stepped up my speed to get alongside the slow buick to see who the hell was driving. Sure enough, it was some 80+ year old geezer wearing glasses. He was tightly gripping his steering wheel with both hands while leaning forward, clearly trying, straining to see the road ahead of him.

By the way, I have learned to hate buicks. Never driven one in my life. I dont know anything about the reliability of buicks. But I do know that for whatever reasons, buick drivers of all ages drive way too slow. Its always a buick on the roads and freeways that are driving 10-20 miles below the speed limit. I know its a safe thing to do, but it tends to create traffic jams. When I get stuck behind a buick in traffic, I just KNOW im in for a slooooow ride. What is it about buicks that makes their drivers go slower than most others?

I see these "I drive in the left lane" people all the time. They really bother me. "I drive in the left lane, if you don't like it, F you." That seems to be their attitude.

While they may be a pain in the ass, they are still in the right legally unless goiing under a minimum speed limit. It's a shame that many decide to outdo their level of stupid by putting themselves and others into danger to try to save some time. I run into these types often enough and have found that backing off and giving them a few minutes of space usually results in an opening that is safe to leverage. - a lot easier and safer than getting into a pissing contest with a nut-job. Plus, I am usually armed and do not wish to exacerbate any situation that could result in going someplace that I prefer not to go - the responsibility of being armed helps temper my temper.

looks like everyone but the semi driver got what they had coming.

And he seemed to hold up pretty well.

I’ve had this happen to me going north to Chicago on I-55. Some Arab looking guy in a fancy sports car was trying to wedge in like the Camaro. When he realized he couldn’t do it, he started the same tailgating. I was stuck with truck on my right and the shoulder to my left. The guy behind me kept tailgating like mad...before I could speed up and pass the truck, the guy behind me swerves to the left and comes up the shoulder fast with very little clearance. If you watch the video here, when the Camaro does this, the pickup looks like he speeded up also...He should have slowed down and let the Camaro pass, which is what I did.

What state do you live in.

I have never ever seen such a sign.

I live in Texas, and you will find those signs on just about every 2-lane highway. The DOT and the State Highway Patrol have recently been trying to educate people that the signs mean precisely what they say - "Left Lane for Passing Only", and it is simply not permissible to stay in the left lane and cruise.

It seems most people can't seem to mentally process what the signs means, and therefore ignore them. Neither of my two sons had the topic covered when they took their driver training classes, which is a terrible omission.

As I said earlier, they way to know you're doing it right is that at no driver should ever have to pass you on the right.

It means a lot of lane changing. Quite a lot in moderate traffic, but that's okay. It keeps you alert and cuts down on dangerous highway hypnosis.

In heavy traffic, you will find you spend a lot of time in the left lane as part of the line moving passed the slower traffic in the right lane.

What state are you in where you've never seen a sign like this?

Some states assign “proportionate blame” with traffic accidents. I know that insurance companies do. I would assess the blame in this case at Camaro: 60%, Pickup: 30%, Semi: 10%

IMO no one is blameless in this - all made deliberate mistakes that cost them. The Camaro driver was clearly the prime factor but there didn’t need to be an accident. If the Pickup driver had been paying better attention he would have either precluded the Camaro’s “swoop and dive” lane change or backed off and allowed it. Instead he pulled a reckless maneuver against someone he knew was dangerous. Then he compounded it by not allowing the Camaro to pass. The trucker allowed himself to become part of the drama when he let the Pickup pace him.

Come to think about it, I’m changing my score:
Camaro: 50%, Pickup: 40%, Semi: 10%

;’)

“In heavy traffic, you will find you spend a lot of time in the left lane as part of the line moving passed the slower traffic in the right lane.”

Not in Houston. In fact, so many people default into the left lane that during heavy traffic hours the right lane is actually moving 20 mph faster in some spots. Yet people still pack it into the left lane.
