Humans need stress. If they enjoy too much comfort - say, by receiving whatever they need as confiscated from strangers - they will find something to stress out about and fight against.

I agree. Car services, McDonalds and dozens others are always hiring. Only make 10 bucks an hour? move in with three friends and go to school one at a time. Now your income is 80k a year. If the three not in school get second jobs income is over 120k a year.
Mexicans are illegal. But the ones I picked up in my cab worked 80 hours a week eight to an apartment and saved 500k in three years.
I grew up in a similar way but in a Boston neighborhood.
We would have considered ourselves well off if we had what the poor have today.

The majority of them are very very happy with their lives and probably do not spend a lot of time pondering on finding a deeper meaning in life.
What does tomorrow bring? Looting another store? Knockot game? Sex with a hooker while smoking crack? Who knows, but it sure will be fun. It’s just that today is just too fun to even spend any time thinking about it.

If you simply did away with SSI, foodstamps, housing projects and meals at school, etc. almost all of this stuff would go away.
