There are apartment communities all over this country where the residents pay rent and do not own the units. And yet they are not trashed. They are well cared for. This has more to do with lack of gratitude, laziness, lack of pride, unwillingness to take responsibility for oneself, self pity, and the drug and thug culture.

We need some kind of program for people that can’t afford to buy a house to borrow money to buy a house....

I see what you did there......:)

You are correct. If someone offered me a home for free because I couldn’t pay rent, I would appreciate it and take care of it. But that’s the difference; these people feel entitled not appreciative.

Maybe we should force banks to give low/no income people the chance to buy a house with no down payment and not be held responsible for making the payments? /sarc

I don’t know about the good pastor, but when I rent a car or any other item I actually strive to treat it well. Guess I have my upbringing to blame for that.

Here is a novel idea: Get a job. Work hard. Save some money. Buy a house.

Of course they don’t feel the apartment is theirs. It’s not theirs. They don’t own it.

And giving them mortgages will make them feel the property is theirs? LOL Their landlord will be the bank instead of the government.

When our country was young only property owners were allowed to vote. Now we have voters who are illiterate and some are not even citizens.

Welcome to the club. If I do not send the Emperor 10k a year the home I built and the 5 acres I cleared are not mine either. And I paid for mine with cold hard cash, sweat and a bit of blood here and there.

On the bright side, if someone understands ‘private property’, there is hope for them.

Nope ... it’s those hidden charges in the contract ... and not your upbringing that keeps most of us on the straight and narrow.

It is not “theirs”. If anything, it is property of the taxpaying citizens. If they want something to be “theirs”...work, earn money and, then, buy it.

Why I bet there’s even some folks that have run a rented vehicle through the car wash!

Funny, there are tons of responsible renters who treat their living space decently.

We leased homes for a long time - not because we couldn’t afford to buy one but because we weren’t sure exactly where we wanted to live on a more permanent basis. Always left the places in way better condition than we found them and spent a lot of our own money doing so.

Bought a house which we ended up renting out. When their lease was up we had to totally redo the interior and exterior of the house before we sold it and got out of the rental business.

My parents taught us to take care of anything we used, regardless of whether it was ours or not. Very few seem to do that any more.

When White people want stuff we just print money.
Its not fair that other poc can’t do the same.

Also, Milk just jumps in the bottles, the bottles make themselves, and magically show up on shelves at the grocery stores.

Infact, all of white America’s distribution system is magic. Noone actually works for living. We never struggle or have to make any decisions.

As a renter I fixed up the little things in my apartment, I tried to be a “good tenant”.

There's a news story out there about a woman in public housing complaining about a broken screen door, she says: “It terrible what people GIVE YOU.” Meanwhile behind her you could see a big screen TV in her apartment.

I guess the idea that she could fix the screen door herself just never occurred to her.
