We had some huge boulders when they dug our basement and some smaller ones. It would have cost too much to haul them off, so they just pushed them down the hill and they were all in kind of a circle.
Our kids used to climb around and play on them all the time. Hubby was afraid that snakes might lurk there, so he poured some exposed agate all around them.
That left a center of grass. The concrete company had some suitable rock sitting around, and when Hubby inquired on the cost - they just threw it in to his order for free.
So he put down the bed of what looks like reddish brown lava rocks. Plopped down a sturdy grate, and we had ourselves a council ring. All that's needed is a tepee.
So we sometimes take our hot-dogs, and what ever out to the council camp fire and use Sassafras limbs for roasting sticks. Use some of the rocks to sit on, and with some chips, potato salad, and baked beans - who need charcoal? Then we do dessert - some mores naturally.
Easy on the cook, and clean up is a breeze. LOL
