A Powdered Alcohol, Palcohol, Was Approved by the TTB On March 10 and Is Now Legal To Sell

I have found a company that is going to start making powdered alcohol this year. The product is called Palcohol and is probably going to outshine the marijuana industry even though it is going to have similar enemies as does the marijuana industry.

Taken from the company's website, http://www.palcohol.com: "The TTB approved Palcohol on March 10, 2015 and It is now legal to be sold in the United States. We will be working on getting the production facility up and running. It will take a while but hopefully it will be available this summer. "

And to clarify, not all alcohol is burned off in cooking:

Just the excerpt. Don’t always read the entire articles.

Maybe tell the poster to post more of the article while you’re at it.

I do not comprehend the concept of ‘powdered alcohol’. What exactly is this from a chemical standpoint, and what reaction is occuring with hydration of it?

The alcohol isn’t powdered at all. It’s absorbed into and encapsulated by a carbohydrate. Chemically, the alcohol is simply ethanol soaked into a powder. Calling it powdered alcohol is to my mind pretty much a misnomer.

The whole thing strikes me as an interesting technology in search of a valid use.

Just struck me that a lot of people seem to assume this is a more concentrated form of alcohol brought back to regular strength by adding water.

Which, if true, would be kind of like dehydrated water. Just add water to reconstitute.

I use Everclear in a backpacking stove... And it is an antiseptic. The extra... well. I leave nothing to waste.

I do like the idea of powdered alcohol for myself. I imagine it will be a flavorless type of spirit like vodka. Good for a mix where you don’t want to carry around a flask.

What could possibly go wrong? In a world going totally insane, why do we need powdered alcohol? What’s the up side? Backpackers can get bombed in the wilderness? Pot can take care of that if that’s the goal. I just don’t get it at all. I could get jazzed about a cure for cancer or MS. But some brilliant individuals have spent time instead figuring out how to make powdered alcohol. Whatever. Yeah it’ll be huge - a huge bunch of stupid humans doing stupid things with booze in another form. Can’t wait.

So far, it looked to me like all they are selling, is mixed drinks, not the pure alcohol.

If you think that Marijuana and alcohol are the same thing, then your opinion on alcohol can't mean much.

Jesus drank alcohol.

why do we need powdered alcohol?

Slaves worry about need.

Free men do as they please.

You have a problem with freedom?

here is already stuff available that has it in spades over this powdered stuff.

Got a link?

As someone that experiments hard with food, I would like to know.

Forget snorting it, how about fireworks? This is going to be a pyromaniac dream come true, and you know it.

That’s a thought, beats having large bottles of alcohol in first aid kits, possibly.

The company says it is very difficult to snort in quantities to be effective.

Yes, but I am sure the "yoots" of today will give it the "good ol' college try"... We'll be lucky if stories are limited to snorting.

For myself, having a portable powdered "Old Fashion" seems very interesting.

What I'm looking for is the powdered "20YO scotch".

Do you believe that because some free men will abuse the product that it should be banned or highly controlled for all men?

Heck no.We had millions of idiots vote for obama but we still allow elections, I can't think of anything more stupid but I still support them. ; )

No, I am completely against banning this. Bring it on. Idiots will always find something to horribly impale themselves on, at least they have a wide choice...

Now there's something I hadn't thought of. Now I'm waiting for the first "Hey y'all - watch this!" moment...

Hey, all I know is that even I used hairspray or alcohol for rockets or spud cannons, so someone already has the idea.

You must be both :-) I’ve looked into storing alcohol and it’ll last forever in its liquid form. Looked into powdered wine for the applachian trail too. Decided on brandy in a plastic bottle.

Nope, they’re not exactly the same - not sure why that matters or is relevant. Whatever. I have no problem with either one actually. I just don’t see anything good, especially among youth, coming from powdered alcohol.
