I was surprised when I read “Dr Smith” actor Jonathan Harris wasn’t a flaming homo as he seemed.

Interestingly, Harris grew up in New York City with a strong Yiddish background and heavy Bronx accent. He forced himself to adopt that British accent to appear more cultured.

Since Harris played a voice-only role in the original Battlestar Galactica series, they paid homage to him by using his life story as the backstory for the traitor Baltar in the reimagined Showtime version. That Baltar hid the fact that he came from a lowly farming planet and got rid of his poor agrarian accent. On one episode, he even muttered "Oh, the pain... the pain..."

Interesting.

It’s hard to envision him speaking with a Bronx accent, lol.
