Back in the day, Chevelle was an economy car. 396 was a horse of a different color.

Always a MOPAR guy...I do harbor a love for the midsize GM products of the 60s/70s. The wife, after many years of storage by family inherited her granddads 71 cutlass supreme that is the ultimate survivor. With a minimum of work this car has currently 6200 original miles. I had it out and about yesterday. Very cool and I got a plethora of horn honks and thumbs ups.

Too bad I no longer buy GM or anything made by the Democrat UAW.

I used to see many with some kind of dog tracking rear axle location issue.

A high school buddy completely rebuilt a 68 SS Chevelle 427. Huge TRS racing pistons, cam, etc.. Had to enlarge the oil sump to keep all that high-compression hardware slick.
The night he got it back from the $5,000 (in 1972 dollars) rebuild, we took it out on the street to show it off. He hit a pothole on one of the city’s fine roads at an advanced speed and tore the bottom out of the pan. The engine seized almost immediately and $5K vanished in a cloud of blue smoke.
And I had to call my dad for a ride home.

It was also produced more than 10 years, as noted in the article. The Chevelle was produced from 1963 (model year 1964) to 1977.

I had a chance to buy one like this, but red, for next to nothing in the early `90s.
I'm more into Chevys but every time I see a thread like this, I kick myself for passing it up.
