A nude man and woman, standing in front of a representation of the spacecraft itself (for scale) may be easily interpretable to humans, but what if the aliens that find the plaque dont have eyes and instead communicate by smell? Even if they do see, will the lines look like squiggles or like beings? Will they judge us by the quality of the art? The plaque has earned a fair amount of criticism, but the researchers charged with the taskFrank Drake, Carl Sagan and the artist, Linda Salzman Saganhad three weeks to come up with a message. They were happy to get something on the space probe.
More recently, projects like Lone Signal have asked members of the public what message should be sent. People talk about friendship, love, peace, says Dimitra Atri, a physicist at the University of Kansas who also runs a project called DearET.org. The project centers around a website set up with the idea that if humans around the world practiced sending encoded messages to each other, we might be able to learn more about the challenges of communicating. Atri imagined that he would be able to crowdsource ideas on what message to send, but there is so little funding available for METI the website remains a side project.
Even the Lone Signal project, which didnt rely on grants for funding, had trouble, despite charging the message senders (25 cents for a tweet-length message, plus more for longer messages). In late August 2013, the project cofounder and CEO Pierre Fabre wrote a letter and posted it to the projects discussion boards.

What if aliens think it is a menu?
Here in CA, the aliens force us to accept their alien language and culture, breaking the local earth laws.
The two people are decidedly Caucasian looking. That could be perceived as micro-aggression!/s
True.
We’re pretty earth centric.
Personally I don’t care about intelligent aliens. I want aliens we can eat which is a very good reason to hope we don’t encounter intelligent and hungry aliens.
Every element on earth can be found in vast abundance in space. An alien race doesn’t need to come here to find it. The one thing earth has that does appear to be relatively rare is animal protein.
I think the universe is so vast that just about any kind of life form you can imagine exists as long as it doesn’t violate the laws of physics. Like my cousin was saying a few months ago, right now there’s probably a whole alien species on a planet that all look and act exactly like Nancy Pelosi. GAAAH! Imagine landing on that planet! Or on another planet there’s a bunch of Hillary Clinton who all communicate by saying variations of “What difference does it make?”
Should have put both his hands up, “Don’t shoot”.
most aliens if not all i think are just very primivate life forms like single cell lifeforms and maggots
Definitely needs to pull up his pants.
I take offense to the “unit” size representation of the white guy. Aliens will tease us.
LOL! I noticed that too.
Yes, that can present a problem.
With the address written on it!
I remember when they designed that plaque. The feminists were angry because the male drawing was taller than the female drawing.
And what if by putting the recording on a gold (or was it platinum) disc we are advertising the wealth of this planet and inviting an invasion?
