Word For The Day, Tuesday May 19, 2015
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
tatterdemalion [tat-er-di-meyl-yuh n, -mal-]
-n
1.a person in tattered clothing; a shabby person.
-adj
2. ragged; unkempt or dilapidated.
[1600-10; first written tatter-de-mallian and rhymed with Italian; see tatter1; -de-mallian < ?]
that will be a feat equal to the conversion of ISIS, LOL!
I probably can’t offer that one aloud at mass....I could say “for a special intention” and they would never know.
Born in Hope, a tatterdemalion
Trailer trash, where riches were alien
But by wheeling and dealing
And lying and stealing
Little Bill is a modern Pygmalion
It really is a wonderful practice to pray for ones enemies. It’s easy to pray for the people we love and care about, so while we do pray for our loved ones and we should, it is much more valuable to pray for the truly nasty people out there. and there are tons aren’t there? and how many fewer people there are to pray for the nasty ones.
Even more valuable....forgive your enemies. Both praying for them and forgiving them will bless you as well as them.
Ha, ha! Bill predicted O’Malley would one day be president....too funny, now that he will run against Hillary.
I saw that, what a sweet little boy!
I must admit, I was a little disappointed in the level of the comments on the thread.
Very touching story. I was a little saddened to notice the young mother and her 5 y/o son appear to have different last names.
Really? I hope that works out and he has a father figure....the mom is doing great raising him, though. He is a sweetie.
the place has gone downhill in many ways!
Really?
Yes, I would never demean or criticize the mother as she obviously is imparting values of compassion and responsibility to her son. And I also hope that he has a spiritual father figure in his life to help her in guiding him. It just struck me as I was reading the article, and it made me think about how common it is for young children to be raised without both parents married to each other in the household. I find that sad. Perhaps the reporter gave the child’s first and middle names and his last name is the same as hers, but that is not typical in reporting a story.
Maybe she’s a professional woman using her maiden name and the child has her husband’s name.
Yes, that is another possibility.
Hope one of those explanations is the true one but vast is right, far too often kids are growing up in single family households and it’s sad. Regardless she’s doing a great job with him that he’s that compassionate and caring and sherecognized it as the proudest moment of her life as a parent.
Rasmussen is claiming Michelle is Hillary’s toughest rival. Can you imagine that blood fest. LMAO. Bitch v Beast.
Wasn’t there an old nursery rhymn or poem about tatterdemadadelions?
“She loves me,
she loves me not.
She loves me,
she loves me not .. as the dandelion got tattered and torn?
I’ve been working on finishing a little job that we had to leave off with all the rain-it needs to be done by Friday so we can get paid...
Any trashy tatterdemalion
Could do a much better job
With questions than Hillary
Who is such an obvious snob
Today she actually almost
Answered a question but then
Said she would consider it
And went to snooty again...
