With the dearth of money and work, my ego badly needed a boost-and voila-Nemesis called just as I was getting out of the truck to go inside and asked me to consider “going to dinner or something” this weekend.
I said I’d consider it, call me back later in the week-and the first point of that consideration is that when I said what do you want, he said I just want to see and be with you, okay-which is bulls***-he wants something-probably is willing to pay me for counseling-again. All the practiced charm in that cowboy’s playbook won’t keep me from charging him a nuisance fee for listening to his nonsense-been there, done that-unfortunately, I really need the money...
What would I rather be — a functional tatterdemalion or a very itchy wearer of new clothing?
