My wife is old fashioned lady, and she didn't want to have the sex talk with our daughter. So mom sent her to me. Se was about 10 or 11 at the time, and she had heard about it at school. I was prepared, I had found a horrible video of a woman in labor. The woman was in labor for over 36 hours and had all kinds of complications. She couldn't get any pain meds, she threw up a few times in between all the cussing and screaming like a stuck pig. They even had to do an episiotomy. The woman in the video looked like she was being tortured the whole time. So when my daughter asked me about sex the first thing we talked about was that if she had sex she could get pregnant, and I showed her the video of that woman in labor. My daughter was pail after watching the video and wanted to know if labor was always that bad, of course I said that sometimes it much worst. I then answered all of her other questions about sex. She for some strange reason didn't want to have sex after our little talk, and didn't have get pregnant until she got married.

My Dad emphasized the scary financial responsibility. Every good parent knows just which buttons to push.

My daughter is a bit of a hypochondriac. She would go to the er for a hangnail. My youngest son I could whip the hell out of and he would just laugh at me, but if I told him I was disappointed with him I could bring him to tears. All I had to tell him was don't get a girl pregnant until you are man enough to be a dad, and she is good enough to be your wife. He is a marine now and has no interest in starting a family until he is financially set. With my middle son, I told him that if he got a girl pregnant that he would take care of the kid or I would cut it off and feed it to him myself. At 27 he has not yet gotten a girl pregnant. Yep I know what buttons to press. I also told each one of my kids that they better kill me before they killed (aborted) one of my grand kids. All my kids are pro life.

If you make fun of over the top fads, the kids learn to laugh at it rather than join it. It worked with mine.
