"Hamburger Hill" had it's moments. "Full Metal Jacket" was fine for the boot camp part, the Hue segment was too Kubrick.
Agree with both assessments.
I think Hamburger Hill shows the futility and idiocy of the VN War better than any other ... although Platoon (for all its misrepresentations) is a close second.
And when people ask me if boot camp was as bad as portrayed in FMJ, I say - No, it was worse ... a lot worse.

Not a war movie per se but Children of Men has an amazing single shot (as in filmed in a continuous take with one camera and no edits) urban battle scene.
