Hmmm. I wonder about those female or even male actors who initiated the requests for sex themselves in order to get starring roles. It works both ways.
That’s how he got the part in SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER. In the back of a limo.
I think that’s also what makes a lot of stars end up strung out. They simply can’t live with themselves when they realize it wasn’t worth it. Then again, I don’t guess the numbers are any higher among actors than they are among regular dope heads.

Thank you for pointing that out-I don’t know about the other side of the pond, but my mom made taking me to a movie on Saturday afternoon a mom-daughter ritual from the time I was about 4-we went to see “Parrish” one Saturday, and at dinner my dad asked her about the movie-she said she was sure Connie Stevens got her part on the casting couch and my dad said that’s pretty bad, or words to that effect. It wasn’t the first or last time I’d heard of the casting couch-I can’t believe it is anything new in England, either...
I would bet almost every actress today has, at some point early in their career, had sex for a role.
Produces, casting directors, etc. wield an incredible amount of power. There are thousands upon thousands of young beautiful girls (and boys) who will do anything for that one big break.
And the actress who won't put out for a role? Well, there's a whole bunch in line behind her who will.
Running a casting couch was pretty much what Bill Cosby was doing, except he wasn't making good on his end of the deal.
From what I have read the casting couch was really bad back in the 50’s and 60’s.
I’d heard/read about the couch-in the 60’s-it was mentioned in articles in womens’ magazines that teen and preteen girls read-articles about Hollywood, movies, etc, so I guess it never occurred to me that it wasn’t anything other than sex between some horndog producer/director and a young woman willing to sleep her way to top billing-that there might have been coercion, but not rape or other abuse.
I read a book in the early 70’s by an adult actress who had also been a child star, telling about producers leading kids to that couch-sometimes with parental consent-as a condition for acting contracts, but before that I never realized that stuff involved any kids-only consenting adults.
You look at a lot of the actresses who aren’t that pretty. And the number of gay actors. And you have to figure there is some criteria other than acting ability or looks that is getting these people their jobs.
Some of them are children of people in the business. But others just have to be sleeping their way to fame.

She needs to put some ice on that. NOW nags have said that the first grope is free. They did this when Bill Clinton was being investigated for workplace sexual harassment.
In any movie, there are lots of small parts where the quality of the actress won't make a difference to the box office, and there are lots of actresses who are pretty and have decent acting abilities for each such part. So, the choice comes down to which actress is nicest to the producer/director/whoever.
