For years, Ryan Broderick has been trapped inside his mind, watching a constant reel of explosions that rocked the Army vehicles he had scrubbed of blood during three combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Since January, Broderick has been stuck inside a real jail, fortified by cinder blocks, surrounded by barbed wire. The government that Broderick upended his life to serve locked him up in Edgecombe County, about 75 miles east of Raleigh.

Vets making threats of violence against VA personnel is nothing new, but it is uncalled for. It also is a negative sign for PTSD and a positive sign for a personality disorder.

Don't waste your sympathy on this guy. He isn't what the hysterical newsie wants you may to think.

The answer became clear in the summer of 2012. Broderick and several hundred soldiers from his unit were standing in formation during a safety briefing when another soldier opened fire on a commanding officer. The superior was killed; the soldier then turned the gun on himself.

I don’t remember ever hearing about this.

I have to say calling a federal agency and threatening to kill people will always get you put in jail. I can only imagine what would be said if nothing was done and the veteran went to the VA and killed a bunch of people than it came out that he had told someone he was going to do it.

And you know this how? Seems to me you can’t even put a sentence together in a meaningful way...

You don't know what you're talking about. members of the armed forces while in theater in both Iraq and Afghanistan have been given so-called anti-malaria pills that are known to have psychotic side effects. The troops are ordered to take them everyday. You should be ashamed of yourself.

OK, I do feel sorry for my brother-in-arms, but for crying out loud, Man-up!

I saw a lot of blood and guts and dead comrades too, many years ago.

Does it still bother me? Sure, it never goes away, but life goes on and we deal with it.

War sucks, but it's what we, as young men do, and will always do.

The kid made a poor decision, I hope he gets another chance and isn't prosecuted.

“So this is what I’m going to tell you, if I don’t get no (expletive) help soon, I will come through the (expletive) VA and start shooting that (expletive) up.”

In reality, this is not a threat since he doesn’t state that he’s going to do it. It’s a plea for help... The “if I don’t get no help soon” is a qualifier and suggests he is not there yet. Just warning them of what could happen.

What kind of punishment would really fit the crime? Would that be a punishment desired by the sensitive, pampered folks in the political class or Broderick’s real peers?

Fine. Where are the asylums for psychotics? Oh, the nutty feminists, paranoid in their fantasy that husbands and doctors would put them in asylums, abolished them.

"psychosis is NOT the same as PTSD"

I never claimed it was. But what you try to claim is that combat trauma, combined with drugs known to have psychotropic properties cannot lead to psychotic behavior? I'm not buying it.

Nope. Academic feminists and their friends in psych. and soc. departments are the confused ones—notorious on campuses.

CPMPRBIDITY....it means “the simultaneous presence of two chronic diseases or conditions in a patient.”

They are not the same thing. They may occur simultaneously in certain people but one is not the other
