Back in the day, leisure time was not thought of as a chance to veg out, but as opportunity to pursue ones passions and interests, an outlet for the sides of a man that were not stimulated in ones career. Unfortunately, we now often spend our leisure time camped out in front of the TV or computer. We say that modern life has become too stressful, that when we have free time, laying on the couch is all we can manage.
The truth is that spending our leisure time in satisfying pursuits, fun work, will refresh us far more than a non-stop marathon of playing Call of Duty. Hobbies can bring you joy, increase your eye for detail, keep your mind sharp, expand your creativity, and help you meet friends and learn valuable skills. They add interest to your life and help you become a more well-rounded man. If youve been feeling depressed, restless, or apathetic, the problem may be the lack of having something in your life you feel passionate about, something that brings you needed fulfillment.

It works. Well. The local corner store where I grew up sold more Leggs Eggs to guys in the winter than to women.
Of course if you wore them UNDER the long johns instead of over them, you were highly suspect...
Put me down as a manly wimpy wuss! I write compilers using lex and yacc, in BNF and LALR(1) grammars to pass my spare time!
The marksmanship illustration has a nice gallery gun with a peep site. You can still find them for short money in gun shops that take consignment.
A couple of years later I did it again, except with a young fiance that I met when she was vacationing in California, from Wales.
The weather was milder that time, and the experience was very different, it was weird since we barely knew each other, and it got rough when the truck was a week late, and we ran out of food, but being a sweet innocent girl with no outdoor experience, or having ever seen a gun, she picked up some new experiences.
One experience was at the end, when the truck finally showed up, and I had to take a pistol away from the driver, whose instructions were to get the load, and return for us 3 days later (which I knew wouldn’t happen), we then drove a few hundred miles without gas money and not enough gas, and no lights, because the alternator or something went out, and we had me climbing out of the cab to go back to hold a flashlight sometimes, as a tail light. That entire drive was an experience that she won’t ever forget.
Long time winter camping is really a fun thing to do, any long term camping is, but in the winter, you can really escape people and separate yourself from this time, and this modern, crowded America.
If that ain't manly, there's no such thing.
I saw flying, but nothing about riding a Harley or scuba diving. I do also read, on occasion.
Because War...War never changes...
Sorry KC, Beat ya to it ;)
Harley was covered under mechanical/auto repair ;)
You should see me at parties...

Well, if I’d found out about it before today, I might have made it to Corpus for the annual memorial shoot. Bummer.
Should have gone last year. (chickened out at the last minute)
Marksmanship and firearms enthusiasm are a hobby, right?
The opening picture is of men in motorcycles and further on they have this to say:
“Whether riding cross-country or tinkering in the garage, plenty of men enjoy being a motorcyclist. This hobby is sure to reward its practitioner in more than just gas mileage and technical knowledge, though books like Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance and Shop Class as Soulcraft argue for the many mental and philosophical benefits of motorcycling as well.
In a car youre always in a compartment, and because youre used to it you dont realize that through that car window everything you see is just more TV. Youre a passive observer and it is all moving by you boringly in a frame.
On a cycle the frame is gone. Youre completely in contact with it all. Youre in the scene, not just watching it anymore, and the sense of presence is overwhelming.
Robert Pirsig, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance”
and with a picture of men grabbing a ride on a giant turtle then about scuba:
“While sailing keeps you on top of the seas, scuba diving takes you below to explore the deep. Its a unique hobby in that youre required to take classes and become certified before being able to participate. Youre certainly a little bit limited if you live in a state without much water to explore, but even inland locales have scuba shops and classes available. Many people will take classes inland and become scuba certified, but then use their skills on vacations to the clear waters of the Caribbean or more murky haunts like the northern coasts or the great lakes. In most cases, you can at least take a drive somewhere to be able to scuba dive.
Youll become an amateur historian and biologist all in one by joining schools of fish and ancient shipwrecks on diving adventures. Few hobbies offer this type of thrill, so find a school near you to get started!

I love Art of Manliness!
Yes, but did you fall in love?!
I wonder how many of us there are here on FR.
My hobbies:
Bicycling
Guns
Computers (Programming, Web Technologies, custom building my own for online gaming at max FPS, compute clusters, etc..)
Amateur Radio and specifically: building my own antenna's which I've recently started doing and having much success.
Not really. Its what you do with one once theyre caught.
...
I suppose going shopping with them doesn’t count.
Depends. Is she shopping for a blower or nitrous system for the Boss 429 or a man bag for you to carry her toy poodle?
It’s all in the details...
I always figured that if you wore nylons with a garter belt and lacy underwear, THAT'S what made you suspect ...
